I have two. Dont laugh, just try it and tell me otherwise. Scrubbing Bubbles. The stuff just works. I used to use L.O.C. from Amway. It is a Liquid Organic Cleaner. If I could find an Amway dealer I would use that also. That stuff will not hurt the finish and will break down grease, tar, anything on your wheels.

My wheels are opti-coated, so they get soaped and rinsed like the rest of the car, no need for any other detergents or chemicals.

Dish soap is what I see a lot of average joes use for their home washes. I'm using a worse case scenario. Detailing is what I would consider one of the major "pay to play" hobbies, and that's why most people never experiment with more than what they find at Autozone or Walmart.

Thanks for all the responses, I know the stock rims don't matter too much as they will be replaced eventually anyways, but for now I'm putting money into performance for now. I just wanted to see if they needed special care like the high quality rims or if soap and water is good enough. I'd just like to keep them in the best shape possible for now, even though the are stock rims, they aren't terrible by any means when you compare them to most cars in our car price range that come with stock rims.

I spray mine with diluted simple green, then spray with water, this gets most of the dirt off. Then i wipe them down with a microfiber towel to clean/dry them.
I used to use meguiars wheel cleaner but a jug of simple green is the same price as 1 bottle, and i can make 20 bottles out of a jug. |

Just use any all purpose cleaner diluted to the proper ratio should be fine on both tires and wheels.

I use one of these with the hose shoved in behind my hand. My hand gets cold, but it constantly rinses and does a good job. I only use the mitt on my wheels. |

bumping this instead of starting my own thread.
I recommend to spray water, get a small thin towel (like for cleaning grease of hands when working on car) and wet it with some water, then grab some Dawn dish soap (blue one that decreases) and just scrub the rim. Go over it once, spray water, then go over it again 5min later and you'll see how shiny both the rim and the tire get. Then just wax rim and use that black wheel shine gel on tire. Makes your vehicle look brand new! Had a few car geeks comment on my rims today asking if they were oem or special edition because they were shinier than those others they've seen around.

Guessing there must be a bunch of shit on it. Do you use the good soft stuff or the cheap sandpaper kind?
