Anyone know of any stores in Los Angeles or websites that sell racing gear such as helmets, gloves, etc

Saferacer.com is great.

I'm lucky they are only a 90 or so minute drive from me.

i'm coming more from a motorcyclist perspective, but have also been on the track in a car a few times, and i'd go full face.
it's no brainer for a motorcyclist if you don't want your jaw and face ground off by asphalt, but in a car, a full face will protect your face and jaw from the airbag, broken glass or that gopro that flies off its mount when you hit something. you lose a little bit of peripheral vision and it's a bit hotter, but you learn to use your mirrors and move your head more, and get used to it. you can run it without the visor, or with one if you have the windows down. stuff comes through windows like sand, dust, debris if you hit a wall sideways etc. just personal preference. also, if i were running an open top car, definitely a full face.

I like to run with visor down. I wear contact lense and I find if I don't my eyes BURN from the wind
