It's not Subaru's fault that you wanted the car early but didn't PLAN for that very well.
Doesn't help at all

I no 2 on my pre-order list and the dealership still sold cars before I got mine including a car with the same config (Ultramarine/6MT) to a guy lower on the pre-order list before selling me my car.

I have zero clout with Subaru. I've never even owned one before.

I just picked (on purpose) a great dealership that is also getting the largest allocation in the state. Yes, that decision was based on a couple of factors, first the dealership being well liked in the area and knowing someone who works there and second I knew they sold more WRX/STIs than anyone else in Florida so I assumed they'd get more BRZs than others.

Well that's a problem with your dealership, not SoA's fault.

I don't understand any of this. The car is NOT that hard to find for crying out loud. Just call around and I'm 100% sure you can find one sitting on a lot of very close to being on a lot without a name on it yet.

This.

1st order, 1st car.

2nd order came in 2nd along with the 3rd order on the same truck.

The dealership didn't submit the orders properly, or they lied about your spot in the line.

It seems like Subaru just messed up the geographic distribution of the cars. There are tons here in NE that are unsold, and I don't think anyone is still waiting for a preorder, or if they are it's because they placed the order late. Seems like CA got very few of them. They should've distributed them based on pre-order demand instead of doing it based on WRX sales. Still though, if you missed out on the first boatload, that's nobody's fault but your own. I went to the biggest dealer in MA and placed my order on 3/2, so I was able to get one the first week they went on sale. I changed my order about 2 weeks before it was due to come in and was told I would probably have to wait 4-6 weeks if they didn't get one on the first shipment, and unkown amount of time after that if it still didn't come in on the 2nd shipment. I wasn't going to complain about it, I changed my order so I lost my early spot in line and was ready to wait. Fortunately my dealer worked to get me one on the first shipment, which is where it helped getting the order in early (and having a good dealership). There is another much smaller dealer that is closer to me in RI, and I chose to go to the larger dealer because I read here about how the cars will be distributed. If I had gone to that smaller dealer I can guarantee you I would still be waiting because they only got 2 cars and they are both still sitting unsold.

Not trying to blame subaru our scion just saying that these dealerships or mine dropped the ball big time. I do agree that this thread is pointless and makes us Canadian believe you American will sue for anything haha jk just banking the point that where you are in line means nothing if your dealership sucks

I intend to contact my local TV consumer advocates to see if media attention will help in any way.
I was also wondering if anyone feels the pre-order process might be in violation of contract law. Class action suit. They should be forced to fill pre-orders first! Any attorneys out there have a take on this approach?
You serious? I'd hate to meet someone like you in person.

Although I'm about as fed up and furstrated with this hurry up and wait game, I doubt that there is cause for a lawsuit. That doesn't mean that I wouldn't like to punch some *** in the face though.

Also, many of you guys might put the ownous on the buyer, but let's be real here. All these months into the game, SOA can't even give you an ETA or build date for a car that you put an order in months ago. What is this the stone age? Remember the manufacturing line is running as I write this!

Every order I've ever put in for, say a Bimmer, they gave me a build start date and a tenative builld end date. Along with a tenative arrival date. Something to base your expectations around. You can't tell me that Subaru of Japan is so Mickey Mouse that they don't have the ability to do the same or something similiar. It goes to show that they're choosing not to for whatever reason they chose.

So let's be fair here and not put it all on a buyer who has done what buyers are capable of doing. Whether it's at the Subaru of Japan, or America or the individual dealership level they haven't met the buyer half way with what's expected from a seller at the mere information level.

If you put an order for any other Subaru model you will get an ETA and you can watch it go through the process just like that. The problem is that since there is such high demand for these they are not built to order, so in other words your order is not assigned to a specific car as soon as you place it. Subaru builds batches of BRZs and puts them on boats and it is only after they get off the boat that your dealer gets to pick one out and assign your order to it. Once the demand dies down and production catches up to demand, you will be able to see your order go through the whole process, so if you want that level of detail wait another year and try again.
