More Horsepower!

i couldn't overtake a nissan armada once ...i downshifted to lowest gear possible but that heavy pig floored it and i couldn't get past him

There are 130 posts on this thread, and four of them answered the original question. In essence, if the FR-S had more horsepower, what would you do with it?

This is quintessential America- if it's big, it's not big enough, if it's fast, it's not fast enough- because America. And, because no other reason.

But for those who want more HP, if your FR-S had a significant bump in HP, how would you use it? And, -to feel better about yourself- is a legitimate answer. Sad, but legitimate.

if you can't understand that some people enjoy to go faster coming out of turn as well as in them, then you may not be the right driver for this car. just about every performance mod is done to support the car going faster, whether it be in a straight line or in a curve.

feeling better about yourself is the reason you bought your car vs. something uglier, slower, but more practical. there's no other reason if you felt good about your purchase.

it's also the reason people do just about anything - to feel better about themselves. it's the reason that some don't add HP but take HPDE instruction; so they can feel better about beating some guy with a faster car using skill alone.

it's the reason people post questions on forums like this, so they can justify what their own decisions so they can feel better about themselves. it's the reason that people take care of their children, so they feel like good parents. or the reason people go to church, or do well at their jobs.

it's not sad; it's human. and it's also the inspiration for people to do good, help others, or other amazing things.

Would I complain if I was handed more power on a silver platter? Probably not, but for my daily commute I honestly think the car would be less fun with a lot more power. This is simply the reality of where I live with its restrictive speed zones and draconian law enforcement.


With more power comes the realization that I won't be able to wind the car out as much (on the roads I drive) and as cliché as it sounds it really is more fun driving a slow car fast then driving a fast car slow.

Honestly to me the FR-S is plenty quick. No it's not a muscle car but fast enough for me......then again I traded in my Mazda2 for an FR-S. The Mazda2 had 100hp and 98 ft lbs. The FR-S feels like a race car after that jump.

Exactly.
My case if opposite though lol. I came from a 300hp BMW 335i and this car feels way more playful and quick. The BMW felt like a cow. Sure it was fast on the highway...but this car can get to the same speeds anyways....although I don't think people drive 200+km on highways unless your in Germany on the autobahn which is also stupid because Germany has more deaths on the autobahn than from anything else lol

I also own a 2014 Honda Accord, CVT with 185hp...when i drive that car for a week and jump into the FRS/86....i feel like "damnnn, this thing is pretty quick!" lol

Typically, on the highway you drive 100-130km max. Any car today can achieve these speeds. Doesn't matter than you can drive 200+ because nowhere in Canada is that legal. So why do people call this car slow? Because...INTERNET.

Another thing people always forget.

A lot of the cars on the road have less hp and are slower than the twins. Most cars on the road are CVT's with under 185hp.
Than you have some with 185-230hp but they are SUV's or heavy sedans where power to weight ratio doesn't come close to our cars.

Than of course we have those internet youtube cars with 300+hp that like 10% of drivers own and you rarely see depending where you live, yet on the internet everybody makes it seem like every car on the road has 400hp and is red lining and driving 250km/h+ lol

I live in a wealthy area, so yes, i see quiet a lot of AMG Merc, BMW'S, Lambo etc...but seriously, the guys driving the exotics especially, drive them slower than Honda Fit drivers and regarding the other higher powered cars, I never have a problem overtaking them if i need too.

And than we have the modding solutions.
Stage 2 UEL or EL header back exhaust will bring you up to 230-240hp. Should be plenty quick in such a light car!

I drive sometimes my car in the autobahn with 200+km and the most serious issue is not performance, but the aluminum engine hood which bends by the wind. Sometimes it bends so much that you have the feeling it is open! lol

Overall, I have the same feeling. It is not a slow car and it is much faster than the majority of the other cars. Some people think only in terms of numbers and think that 200hp is not enough, but they forget that it is a light car. Ok, it is not so fast as a Porsche 911 or a BMW M3, but that's life. You get what you pay.
