That's the correct specs. I am a believer that the VR-1s are basically RC-1s with treads cut in them. They grip relentlessly and are wearing great so far. They took all the heat of two 90 degree track days with 30 minute sessions and asked for more. I pushed the car as hard as I could and never once lost grip or felt greasy running them at 35 psi hot. I'm a happy first-time Maxxis customer.

Another new tire is the Nexen NFera Sur4. A Tirerack guy and well known autocrosser said they were around .5 slower than the RE71 on a 47 second autocross course, but that was without much heat in them. He believes they will be a solid tire for things like Chump/Lemons and track day folks.

According to the latest Grassroots Motorsports magazine, the Rival S (with the 3 tread rib design) got a slight tweak that has proven to be over half a second quicker than last year's Rival S.

Could be the new hot autocross tire.

Good to know. I just ordered a set of Rival-S a couple days ago.

I really envy the American market. So many Tyre choices. We pretty much get AD08r's 595RSRR's, NT01s and Z221s. We have to import everything from Japan if we want good street tyres even.

They won't be the new version. Right now you have to call Tirerack and specifically ask for the V speed rated version of the tire, and they aren't available just yet.

Good to know, thanks. FYI to all, four UTQG 200 tires that were recently mentioned, in 255/40-17:
- Nexen NFERA SUR 4 (tirerack: $155 or 4 for $622 + ship)
- Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R (tirerack: $188 or 4 for $752 + ship)
- Maxxis Victra VR-1 (direct: $165 or 4 for $660 shipped)
- BFGoodrich g-Force Rival S (tirerack: $204 or 4 for $818 + ship - $50 rebate)

My understanding is that RE-71R and Rival S work very well for AX but not for 30-min HPDE. Hope for more feedback on all of these.

What are your favorite street legal tires (no Hoosier Wet) for wet track sessions, assuming you have another set with stickier rubber for dry?

I've had a great experience with Michelin PSS on wet track.

I'm a little underwhelmed with my PSS and, given everyone else's rave reviews, I feel like either there's something wrong with my set or something wrong with my driving style. I don't feel like I should be breaking traction/having TCS cut in with them in some situations that that happens. I'm throwing on some AD08s shortly that I loved on my last car so maybe that'll give me some basis for comparison.

It's been a while, and it wasn't a BRZ/FR-S, but I've raced on Dunlop DZ101s in the pouring rain before and I was really impressed, especially for the price. Although I guess that's now the DZ102...

Thanks, they used to be quite popular and good to keep in mind. Will look for any comparisons with PSS. They did have soft sidewalls - remember seeing a few with bubbles from potholes.
