Kayak on Yakima Roof Rack Installed

Been stopped a few times and several people have asked me to post this, so here it is.

Kayak is a Wilderness Systems Ride 115 Advanced Angler and it weights about 85lbs (38.5kg).

I followed the dimensions from @Nubbs on the thread below to mount the Yakima Rack. I am using Yakima Mako Saddles for the kayak. My cross bars are 1 size shorter than the ones shown on the thread below but I like it because it looks very balanced.

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...ight=roof+rack

I use 3 attachment points for the kayak to prevent movement at 100km/h. These are the factory tow hook attachment points (1 Frt and 2 Rr). I placed some 3M ClearBra material at the four contact patches of the Yakima Q towers to protect the paint.

The kayak is mounted solidly and I made sure not to crank down on the tie downs and the Q Tower cam too much to prevent denting the roof. So far, no damage whatsoever to the roof.

Yes, but I would very much recommend to move both towers 30 mm forward, because the sheet-metal rearward of the rear tower is relatively soft (not supported).
Also, I would add a polyurethane tape on the roof where the pads are in order to increase friction coefficient and prevent the towers from moving at highway speeds.
