I've always wanted to know why we don't just use Kilowatts to the wheels like in Australia. I know 1 KW > 1 HP so the fact that the actual number shown would be lower probably keeps any manufacturer from using it as their numbers will look lower than all their competition.

Side rant: F America and the Imperial number system. Metric is 100% superior. Find me a case where it is objectively more convenient to use imperial units and your reason cannot be that you are used to it.

a millimeter is 1/1000th of a meter. A centimeter is 1/100th of a meter. A decimeter is 1/10 of a meter. Still fractions!

I like the metric system because it's based on the speed of light but fractions are not necessarily a bad thing. Ratios do have their place. In fact the new common core stuff everyone hates is much more like Egyptian math than anything.

But we can just use the smaller unit. It's not like fractions will go away. But we don't need a measuring system entirely based on fractions

Fahrenheit is better at describing the human-livable range of temperatures than Celsius is. That's right, I said it. I don't care that 100 deg C is the boiling point of water, you know why? Because I don't measure the temp; I look for bubbles.

Your realize that the entire reason metric is base 10 is because we have 10 fingers, right? If we had 6 fingers per hand, why wouldnt base 12 make more sense? Or if we only had 3 per hand, maybe base 6 would be the standard.

My point is simply that numbering systems are almost entirely arbitrary.
