People that get fired always say it was for some dumb reason and not their fault. It is always the evil company that is caused it. The reality is that firing people is a pain in the ass so is not done lightly. There are just some dumbass people out there that will not take responsibility for there actions. I am directly involved in fireing people all the time and 9 out of 10 try to twist things so that it is our fault they screwed up. Now I don't dislike like you or anything but based purely on what you have said on this forum over the years I suspect you had better get used to being fired.

Been fired from one job. I was 23yrs old and the manager of the maintenance department I was working in was a paper pusher. I was in a meeting it was the maintenance group our manager and our bosses manager. His manager asked him how long it would take to get this machine back up and running from the PM's we were doing. He stated it would be back up and running in 2 hrs (The pm we just started performing took 6 hrs minimum to complete) I flat our said your wrong maybe you should ask the guys that actually do the work how long it takes. So it was a learning process. Even though my manager was a weazing bag of ****s that talked out his ass you will learn tact and what you can say when and where and get away with it. Alot of the reasons people get fired is that have not learned this skill yet.

I've had to release people before for cause, but in Corporate America at least, its never easy. My typical experience, unless violence is involved, is it averages 6 to 12 months of documentation and attempts at performance improvement plans before it can happen. The whole time your staff thinks your aren't dealing with the "problem child". I was laid off twice early in my career, both times when companies closed an entire business line. Worst one involved the following events all within two days, MomHawk and I closed on our first house, we found out that we were expecting our oldest child, and I got laid off over the phone on a Saturday morning. Yea, that was special. I've never been fired. Well, I take that back. I was once fired 4 times in one day from my Father's roofing company. It was at the end of the first summer back from my college Freshman year, and we just weren't seeing eye to eye. I'd say something, he'd get pissed off and fire me, I'd go sit in the truck for a while, he'd come rehire me, and we would repeat. The next summer I decided to stay at college and get a local job. Probably the only reason I'm still alive.

Most often the final straw can appear to be some small item. It is all the crap that led up to that point that is the real reason though.

So, I'll chime in... I'm in oil and gas exploration. Friends and co-workers are let go daily. Companies large and small are going bankrupt. Small businesses are suffering in the area from a decrease in local spending. I'm with my third company in the past year. Two others went bankrupt. The first one that I was laid off from I worked by ass off and devoted many late hours into its success. Second one was just a pay check and was already hurting. After my first month, paychecks were delayed until they finally stopped coming. That one lasted 3 months. There was some downtime in between which I did some contract work out of my house. That was nice, but no benefits for my family. I'm now at a good company but doesn't mean that I'm not nervous. My suggestion is not to have any debt, if possible, and always have a backup plan in this industry.

People that are fired for cause however I can not muster one little bit of sympathy for. Any slight empathy I may have had for the asshats that think they should be able to do as they please at work (when they honour us by even showing up) was lost a long time ago.

So here is my only "Got Fired"... Over 20 years ago, I was working a summer job at a small business and it turned out to last a little longer. I have always had a strong work ethic. It was the way I was brought up. So, maybe I was a little rebellious when I was 20. But, regardless, I still did my job and did it well. I was always respectful to customers and my employer. Customers wanted me to do some installations but I refused since it was against company policy to not go through my boss's husband's company for the installs. I could of easily said sure, and picked up some extra cash especially since the install company had a two week or more wait time. But this lady couldn't keep her files in order and was always loosing checks. Being the only other employee it naturally had to be my fault. Right? At least in her eyes. I would on occasion find her missing checks she thought she deposited in the wrong files or in other strange places. Anyways, she brought in another employee to help out and let me go as soon as I trained the guy. So, how long did this other dude last before she blamed him for her mistakes. I was glad I was done with that craziness.

tcoat-....it's called Chinese paint. They don't care about us.
Manager bullshitted at a chain store we couldn't have those automatic cart pushers because we were to small...all a lie...he wanted a higher profit sharing check...later got fired. All I can say is I have seen Karma come around , if I can help it along I will. But every a-hole boss I have had that was doing something illegal or cruel ended up getting f-ed in life one way or another. True Story.

Piff that's just a hot grill. Try working at KFC. They way we use the deep frier is like this: the deep frier basket we put the chicken looked like a old timey bird cage with 6 racks inside. Filled with about 30-40 lbs worth of chicken you have to slowly drop it in to the deep frier that looks like a top loading washing machine. We have a pole/hook tool we use so you have to out streach your arms while holding 30-40lbs on grease coverd floor and at the same time try not so splatter hot grease while your dropping it in. Well this was how it was back some 16 or so years not sure how it's now. Then again I never got badly burned just the occasional grease splatter to the arm. As one would expect from using any frier. My co worker that trained me did a good job and I made sure to work safely. I did screw up a few times but it was better than getting burned. One of the baskets got stuck in the frier a few times so I had to turn it off and wait for it too cool so I can pry it loose. That's how a lot of people got hurt at kfc. When they pull on the basket to get it unstuck it comes up with all that hot grease along with it. So yeah, burning your hand on a grill seems like it's far more dangerous. ![]() Besides its not like you ever worked there, so what do you know? Just what you read about a few unlucky people had a work related accidents? Guess what? all restaurants pay money for work related accidents, not just fast food places.
