I have been noticing loud clutch noises for 2 months now,

Toyota didn't know what else to do, the noise came back in 2 days of driving.

I hope it does not lead to any failures,

I read up on this thread, but there does not seem to be any solution, other than getting your clutch replaced (Or in your case, the part replaced).
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56882
That's is pretty much exactly what happened to mine. Squeaky clutch pedal - they've tried fixing it by replacing the clutch master cylinder but it it obviously didn't help at all. It got worse to the point that it would sound horrible when coming to a stop after driving at high RPM.

Replacing the release bearing AND the sleeve was the solution, but as mentioned I got a whole new clutch out of the deal.

This is the sleeve if I'm not mistaken:

"RETAINER-BEARING " 30099AA040

They've added some lithium grease to it to hopefully prevent the same from happening again.

Subaru Nelspruit came out at 17.5% less than NTT Bton

We're lucky to have the choice of supply channel, and the price differences are substantial, so always get a quote from both.
I'm trying to decide if I should extend my warranty or not. Please let us know what the repair costs are.

How long ago was that?
Your release bearing price is way less than Toyota's list price now (R641.87excl)
Maybe that's their cost price, being an internal warranty invoice?

Anyway, I got my car back an hour ago, and it feels great!!
Thanks AUTO UNLIMITED, you guys rock!!

A few clutch drops, some wheelspin, couple of WOTs to the red line, and nothing went bang.
I'm a happy camper.

PS: Put in a thicker linkage washer to sort out occasional gearlever rattle.

Glad it's sorted!! Washer at the bottom? Worked for me.

Clutch was replaced just over a month ago. They did say the prices are lower because of warranty.

My 86 developed a noise when coasting in gear. When you accelerate, no noise, let go of the accelerator and a loud whine or hum was heard.

The the bill:

Breakdown:

Gearbox:

Diff:

Better get that extended warranty if you don't have one.
Took 5 weeks and 2 days at Barloworld Centurion. Only got it back last week

Thanks for sharing the information,

The scary part is the long wait,

I informed Imperial Toyota Strydom park about my clutch issues and they told me expected 2/3 weeks wait.

That means 2 to 3 weeks with no car (If you do not have a second car).

Took my car for a drive to Barberton and it's great.
And the pass is still great too!!

BTW, OEM crash bolts are available from Toyota, part # SU003-02818, R93.90 for 2.
I picked up a set from NTT in Bton (which I don't need, but there's always folks asking about them, so they'll be a gift to the nuxt dude who asks)

I am considering doing a full fluid change based on some of the recent issues guys have been having here.

Was thinking of doing the engine oil/filter but also the transmission oil.

Any recommendation on trans oils?

Motul Gear 300, you can use it for both trans and diff.
