Periodic inspection, EU regulations, pain in the ass.
"...yada yada yada, the inspection focuses on safety and emission. After the inspection is completed, the owner will be given a check list with errors that must be repaired before the vehicle can pass, etc, etc."

Repairs are expensive compared to what the truck is worth, fixing a rusted frame or even tuning the engine for emissions may not be worth it.
Worst case it's scrap, I buy another cheap truck, it's really no big deal.
But the thing is, I've grown fond of the old rust bucket. It's got spirit.

It's quite a fine machine. Be sure the inspector first notices the gearshift knob. That'll bring you good luck.

So, that didn't go overwhelmingly well; but the truck will live.
Some work needed. Welding and crap. Not too expensive, only annoyingly expensive.
That'll buy me two whole years until next time.
I intend to get a welding machine and learn to use it by then, so I can frankenstein this thing myself.

Yay! Now I should come over and help you patch it.

Important update:

My truck is back, deemed roadworthy for the next two years!
Turns out I had broken several major components of the rear suspension. Which not only explains the slightly wobbly handling characteristics it had developed, but also confirms that it was a good idea to stop using my GT86 on these lumber roads.

ok, so "important" was a stretch, but it's an update

Man, you don't need an excuse to post a sweet photo like that. I fear, though, that you are straying from your Norwegian roots. Now jack up that suspension and get airborne, sir!

Ok, Tommi's Finnish but STILL!...

That is one sweet ride, isn't it? And of course, with Tommi Mäkinen at the wheel it becomes awesome.

The stock suspension can take a little airtime, btw. Don't ask how I know and don't tell my insurance company. Or my wife.

You are very correct, though. Rally/rallycross has always been my favourite motorsport and as a kid I carved up plenty dirt roads practising the scandinavian flick.
I've stopped doing that now, of course. Practising, that is :-)
