People unfamiliar with time attack or not wanting to push the pace shouldn't be competing in CSCS. That's what track days are for

He doesn't need to go off line but he should lift off the throttle and wave them by so they can pass him.

And yes, it is embarrassing which is probably why he doesn't do as he should. I've been passed by enough Civics and Echos that I might not have had to let go if I was willing to drive 10/10ths but I can't afford to mess up my car so I can't drive it that hard so I let them go.

Can't say I haven't thought of selling my BRZ to buy a cheap Civic and modify the crap out of it for dedicated track duty and have another more comfortable car for the street but I love my BRZ way too much to do that.

From what I got on the weekend you don't need to give up the line, but you must signal and let the faster cars pass. It is super frustrating having to wait, but it is the only safe way.

Yeah that happens almost at every track event where it's open to people with various skills. Had a 458 that decided to BRAKE in the MIDDLE of turn two at Mosport which is a big no-no. Good thing for traction control on the BRZ, I probably would have spun off and into the bottom of two. Lesson learned, I just stay way back from any car that has a CSCC thing on the back of the car.

100% this. The car giving the pass (about to be passed) needs to signal (either turn signal or point by out the open drivers window) and then lifts off the throttle and stays on line. The car taking the pass needs to go off line (always towards the inside of the next turn) and ensure they can get the pass done before the passing zone is over (before turn in of the next turn, unless otherwise marked).

The McLaren should have been black flagged and talked to, if it keeps happening their day is over. Can't comment on if it was total lack of awareness of how cars were lining up behind him, or just too arrogant to let a civic pass him though.
