Tinted Windows

My BRZ is coming in within the week however they are wanting to know if I want tinted windows or not... They are charging me $500 to do it.
Is there anywheres in the GTA that can do it for less than that or is that a decent price? Or is it even worth tinting the windows?

Also whats legal tint in Ontario? I've heard its on an individual basis? What tint level would be "Legal" in that case?

Its actually illegal to tint an FRS or BRZ in Ontario, since it is illegal to tint the drivers and front passenger windows (only windows on a coupe). But your likely to get away with it if it's 35% or under.

A quick google search...

(3) No person shall drive on a highway a motor vehicle on which the surface of the windshield or of any window to the direct left or right of the driver's seat has been coated with any coloured spray or other coloured or reflective material that substantially obscures the interior of the motor vehicle when viewed from outside the motor vehicle. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 73 (3).

So as long as it doesnt Substantially obscure the view of the driver it would be fine?

not sure if quote is from HTA of Ontario..

basically if a cop can't easily idetify who is driving or how many passangers in the car as a result of the tint, he has the right to pull you over and write you a ticket.

unless you're a limo/taxi, those have some sort of special exemption.

Yep. Have had all my cars tinted within legal limits and never had an issue with police. Hence why no reputable tint place would recommend anything darker than 35% on the drivers and passenger windows.

180 for quality tint sounds low end

250-300 i'd trust it more, just cuz.

the tint on my VW has been on since 2005, still black, still not peeling. I paid 300 cash at some place up in newmarket, can't remember the name anymore though, haha.

Audio Heaven is a reputable shop. Very good prices on tint with lifetime warranty. I had my MZ3 done back in 2008 with no issues and I've had my other friends car done there as well.

I think the legal limit on the driver & passenger front windows are 35% and the back can be as dark as you want but I think it's also up to the officer's discretion too. So if he's having a bad day or he caught you doing something stupid, he might look for other things to hassle you o.

35% is subjective and will never hold up in court as an argument

"the shop said it's okay so i did it", no go

if you're white in a light car with light interior and there is a car driving behind you at night shining light through your rear window, you'll be oklay

if you're black in a dark car with a dark interior and there is no external lightsource, you're gonna draw attention of a bored cop.

also 35% at a right angle, 45 angle, from the rear, etc, it all depends since the light absorbing properties stack.

some windows are slightly tinted from factory, so putting on a set % tint might tint them more

again none of this will hold up in court

can a cop see your face, yes or no, that's the only test.. and it's highly subjective.

I did 35% on the sides and 20% on the back window. It does not obstruct my vision at all and yes it was worth it. $500 is a rip off. I paid $160 in Ottawa
