the fuel itself does not contain more power simply because the RON is higher.

I'll always be using 98. Every EFI car I have owned has gotten better mileage, despite costing more to fill up the $/km works out to be better. Cars are always 'learning' anyway, advancing and retarding the ignition, so might as well put the best fuel in to let it reach is potential.
