I think all the peeps saying "this car has enough and what more would you do with it"...
The way I see it is like this; You only need some wheels to transport you faster than walking, and a few bucks for decent food and a roof over your head every night. If that is all you NEED then you don't need a fancy high paying job, or a better car, or a bigger house. You WANT those things because it makes you feel better, or look good, or feel like you're achieving something in life... and therefore you push every year for increases and bonuses you don't actually need. Having 50hp more would make me feel better and have more fun. I love my car already - I'd just love it more if it was a little faster and I could boast about my 250hp car at the bar. Simple as that. If you disagree, then sell your fancy car and house and give it to someone more needy and make sure you only have "just enough" :p

Posts "I need more power" should be cross-checked with the same people's answers to the "How hard do you drive your car" poll.
If the answer wasn't 8 or more, that is if you never went up 7000 rpm, you still haven't ever used the max power you have in the car already. |

240 - 250 hp and 165 - 175 ft/lb of torque and the car would be perfect for me. Just completed my exhaust system with a tune so I should be somewhat close to those numbers.

Another point to consider....
If you could have 300Hp and 300 ft-lbs, would you settle for a vehicle weight of over 3000 lbs? It is kind of fun if you start looking at what Subaru had to do to get the weight of this vehicle down to where it is. By being built to only 200 hp, the engine parts could be built lighter, the gearbox parts are lighter and the driveshaft and rear end are built lighter. I am sure that the modest power impacts the final weight of other systems also. As individuals, we are free to push the engines output past the factory spec without addressing any of the other systems. The Subaru designers did not have that option. So, if the design requirement was for 300 Hp and 300 ft-lbs, and it had to sell at a price point where the people on this board could afford to buy and operate it, would it be possible to build something that was not just another 3500 + lb Mustang? I doubt it. |

Only recently have I realized you're simply creating this post to create another debate, there have been 100s of posts about horsepower on the forum just like this one. This is redundant as hell.

lol
People have different opinions, needs, wants. The car does not NEED more power to be fast on the track. The car could use extra power for more fun. Sure, the car is faster than most eco box cars, and you don't need the extra power to commute daily. But why the fuck did you buy this car if it's just to drive around? A corolla is cheaper, easier to maintain, and will most definitely last longer as a car. Oh I know, cause you like to have fun and go fast (corners or straights!). So for someone who loves how this car handles, but would love some extra power so my ego isn't destroyed when an old ass civic barely loses to me in a line, some extra power would be nice. /thread |

I bought the car because I wanted communicative steering, strong brakes yet gets me 30-32 MPG HWY, reminds me of the old school Toyota coupes I've owned Celca, Supra, SC coupe even my one time dream of owning a 240z but yet didn't want to fork $$$to restore it.

i don't mind the lack of horsepower or torque..it's fun redlining and going through all the rpm range of each gear to squeeze the speed out of it...this car is boring in a straight line..but i see a corner coming up..downshift it to 3 and floor it and by the time i exit the turn i'm going 80mph+...the car is not slow...people need to take turns faster

If I could choose between one with 50 more hp or one with a 8600 rpm rev limit and usable power up there, I know which one I would choose...

I like this car the way it is, but would love it if it had more torque, especially after getting into autocross a little. Not enough torque to accelerate out of a tight turn. Sounds like Toyota improved things with my17, but hopefully will do even more for the 2nd generation. I'd like to see more torque and lighten the car, like Mazda did with the new MX5, which is now quicker than the twins in the straights and the curves.

I'm new to the forum, really want one. I have access to a stock one and it's a great city and backroads car. Unfortunately, the engine is just dull and lifeless stock. I got to drive an HKS supercharged BRZ, and it was so much better!
Why does it need more power? Because the chassis is good and can handle it easily. |
