Think about why this is. I think it's because refresh is done just for the sake of being different, not innovation. I think initial designs usually look the best.

Besides, the same bunch of designers are probably constantly swapping companies so eventually all makes will look the same with similar ugly design elements, even worse if they all are coming out of the same crappy design schools.

Anyway most people forget Chris Bangle was at Bimmer way before his ugly 7 series came out.

Yes, that's a sound and reasonable conclusion. Because I dislike the new R8 styling means I must be on fucking crack as you put it, and so must the majority of this thread.

Or, it's this sometimes beautiful, sometimes ugly concept called an opinion.

I'd say Ford is getting it right in both looks and performance. My opinion, though.

I'd rock that Ford GT with the twin turbo V6, V8 purists be damned.

2017 Toyota 86 - new name, styling, and more power

I can't stand all of the unnecessary crap that ford throws into their designs. The flying buttresses and the taper at the rear of the cabin are distracting and take the design far from what a GT looks like, IMO. It will not age nearly as well as the early 00s GT. Also, screw turbo V6s when you have a flat plane crank V8 available. Stylistically, their regular cars have way too many unnecessary faux vents and grilles. Look at the Escape. The headlights have a fake grille, the fog light openings have a fake grille. The front fenders also have fake vents. The C max has 3 fucking grilles. The Focus RS has a hockey puck in its mouth.

The new R8 looks terrible, too. Too much middle visual heft (like a Veyron) and they really have no idea where to take their big square grille styling from 2004.

While you're right about most of Ford's lineup, I don't think it's relevant to the GT. I'm sure evey little thing you see on that car has a purpose. It's all designed for aerodynamics and cooling. As for the engine, that's pretty much just determined by regulations, both road and racing.

Because, you know, opinions formed after driving only one of their low-end cars (I'm guessing it was a rental, yes?) are completely well thought-out and reasonable. Great job.
