It's annoying when they are young and spouting off from their parent's couch, but they are getting older and it looks like a lot of them are starting to hone it into a useful edge and try to make changes to the world around them. I'm happy to talk about new ideas.

Of course their vehicles would be quite different, they are different people with different ideas and priorities. I'm totally cool with that as long as they leave the old curmudgeonly Gen Xer's loud and fast car, loud and fast music and twinkies and soda alone. Be idealistic, but stay in your lane, rainbow, I'm going fast over here and I don't need you snapchatting about your gluten free muffin in front of me.
This Millennial would try to follow you in his BRZ.
But then I'm on the old side of the Millennial coin - at a ripe old age of 32, I'm pretty much at the border between Gen X and Gen Y.

FWIW, the world inhabited by Gen Ys is very different than the world inhabited by the Boomers (and to a lesser extent, Gen X) - the low hanging fruit of the postwar economic boom is all gone, while globalization has meant that Gen Y faces very different economic challenges (i.e. the need to become part of the knowledge-based economy).

Particularly in the wake of the financial crisis, a lackluster job market, and rising property prices (in North America, Europe and parts of Asia), the financial prospects don't seem great (particularly when you factor in high costs of education). Some have taken to whining about this (see: Occupy), but the reality is that Gen Y (and likely Gen Z) will face an uphill climb to attain the same standards of living that the generations prior enjoyed.

C'est la vie.

I sell used cars for a living. Do you know how annoying it is when I'm doing a demo on a nice car that is mechanically sound, safe, and reliable, but the person looking at it /buying it - is a younger person (millennial/Z gen) who only cares if they can plug their phone in an aux port, or pair with blue tooth so they can stream pandora. etc.... and is totally ignorant about the rest of the vehicle, nor cares to listen about the meat and bones of said vehicle.

The car could be a huge pile of shit, but if it has an aux port, it's considered for purchase. This blows my mind and is making my job really irritating when I come across this customer base and that generation cohort.

At this point I just point them to Honda across the street and wish them luck with qualifying for a lease on a new civic. The tech they want is there. In a few years the old technology will start to phase out. I still get chuckles from people when they see a Lexus with a tape deck, nvm the CD's. lol

anyways /rant off

Tape decks are gold. AUX cassette converters work with phones and mp3 players. Hell, I had a minidisc player back in the day...

This is why millennials in general have no interest in cars, as they are too analog and not digital enough to be an enjoyable hobby. Add to that it's hard enough to pay off student loans, it's that much harder to afford a car be it a fun to drive one. Apparently fun to drive now means paddle shifters and lots of buttons.

I'm technically a Gen-X by definition, and I already have friends of the same age that have no clue how to wind a mechanical watch, ink a fountain pen, or load vinyl onto a turntable, let alone row their own gears lol!

@kwayzie, my point on this is absolutely yes to the first part, but not so much on the second.

I don't think it's those trained in marketing that typically have such a mindert, but too often people who actually end up doing the "marketing" who aren't utilizing the basic concept.

There is the problem, however, that arises with substantially innovative products;consumers often really don't know they want it.

I remember so many people thinking the iPhone was stupid and that no one needed it. Ha!

One thing i always liked about my 02 wrx was the 6 CD player.

It sucks that they don't really do that anymore in cars, thankfully we still get CD players cause I'm a big CD collector for electronica and prefer to listen to music on CD's

A few years ago I thought it was maybe a 1 percent chance this could be killing off half the bees. Today, looks like a 5-10 percent reason, imho. Strange that the news article a week or two ago describing this phenomena cannot be found after a few minutes of search engining for it.

This last month, I noticed the guy on the treadmill beside me double fisting his phone for 10 minutes while speed walking. A few days ago, I saw a woman in her early 20's, going faster than jogging, texting on her smartphone. Imagine if people do day-trading like this?

I think a lot of people have a mainstream negative view of what a 'shareholder' is. They're not all rich old white men who scowl and say bah-humbug. Pretty much all large multi-nation corporations are publicly traded, meaning anyone can buy shares in the company; its called investing.
