It's probably a symptom of deep character flaw, but it makes perfect sense to me.

Who said "Manual is only fun on the highway"? I need to smack this guy.

IF you find manual tedious to drive in a city then you probably cry for flying mount in WOW & make 10 post about it daily on blizzard forum. sorry off topic.

As for op, get an auto. You gonna like it.

OP, I drive an auto BRZ, it's a blast.

I love it's versatility between sport mode and manual mode.

Also, snow mode was a blessing in winter since it's my only car.

All these posts about manual being fun in the city... either sarcasm or people who have never driven in real city traffic.

The only fun I have driving in the city is scaring the shit out of people who are thinking about jaywalking.... by staying in first gear.... while staying below 25MPH because thats the damn speed limit here.

Personally, I prefer MT.

Edit:I guess I've done it for so long it's automatic.

For 6 years I drove the West Loop in Houston at 5pm. Still prefer manual. Like I said - probably a character flaw.

I also learned to drive Manuel on this platform as well. But I've always loved driving and always wanted something more out of my old automatic toyota avalon but didn't really know what lol. Learning to drive manual was the best thing i ever did getting my first new car. I mean from time to time when i have to go back to auto to commute where as I'm driving the gfs car or in a rental it is more easy and it does piss me off how smooth the shifts are but i do personally prefer Manuel to an auto. From time to time i do enjoy stop and go traffic on the freeway as well (as long as im in no hurry to be anywhere.) But thats just my personal preference. Learning to drive manual in a community full of traffic is going to be very stressful, and probably like me you're going to want to return the car or sell it for something else when all your auto driving family members give you smack about it, but once you get it it down....

I have a manual BRZ, but when I go to LA to visit my folks, I usually end up driving their car. Driving a manual sucks when you are in heavy LA traffic where you don't actually ever come off the brake pedal when driving an automatic. My daily car is an automatic, the BRZ is a weekend car.

After 40 years of driving both, I identify as a bi-transmissionist. I can easily switch between them with no issue and feel like you should buy the one you like the most for the mission you have.

When I drive a manual, it is basically automatic, city/street/track, doesn't matter, I don't really think about it, it just happens. The same is true with a (good) automatic. I use it based on the driving at the time and don't think about it. I drive my FRS in manual about 20% of the time, and use the paddles nearly every time I drive.

The best advice I saw in this thread was learn to drive a manual first before you decide. I drove both before deciding and really liked the auto, so I went with it and have no regrets.

Now had this AT been one out of a Camry, or car gods forbid, a CVT, I would have gotten the manual.

This isn't a mustang with a heavy bench press clutch. I honestly prefer driving a manual in traffic. I find modulating the clutch and gas more precise and nicer then simply holding the brake pedal.

Kinda agree here, thats nice for at least when you're on a level road.

Sucks when youre in traffic going uphill though (like an on ramp, oh my fucking god).

Going downhill is fun too. basically like an automatic, I can just stay in neutral and use gravity + brakes XD

I actually prefer manual in traffic because I don't have to press down on the brake pedal as hard to keep it stopped compared to auto haha.

I commute almost 90 miles a day round trip LA to Irvine and I don't mind manual in traffic at all. I don't try to stick onto the bumper of the car in front of me though, I leave about a 2 to 3 car gap so I can just cruise in 2nd gear most of the time and barely even have to touch the brake.

It really depends on the person. You'll have to try it yourself in a borrowed car and see if you can live with it or if it'll drive you crazy.

I have a manual, but I often wish I had gotten an automatic. I hate that my clutch squeaks, even after the dealership has "fixed" the issue already. Also, I hate that my gf cannot drive my car.
As for driving in traffic, it can be annoying sometimes, but usually it's not really a problem. I wouldn't buy an automatic just for driving in traffic. I'd buy an automatic for other reasons though like mentioned above.

Really? I love that. The "I'm gonna crash your car if you ______" threats are now meaningless.
