Manual is always the right answer because when you start to tire of it it's a reminder that life is hard, so don't be a little bitch about it. The fact that we can drive places in the first place is amazing enough, I'll shift my own gears thank you. But once again, I'm not a *****. YMMV.
Totally reasonable comments and I appreciate your opinions on the manual, Its just you don't need to be so rude. Yeah, what is *****? Plus I am not buying now - I have a year left in my lease before I can drop it. I don't have a lot of experience and this thread has been very helpful, because now I at least want to test drive a manual for sure.

For those of us who don't have a commute like that on a daily basis, we probably wouldn't ever consider that problem.

If you don't have a regular creeping commute up a big hill, get the manual. You'll learn it fast, probably faster than most because you'll get more practice in traffic.
Haha! Thankfully, my commute does not involve that. My whole point of getting this car is that I am bored with driving cars that have no life. And if the auto takes a bit of that life away, why get it? A lot of you are helping a lot, thank you.

Risking that everybody will again try to convince me I am a dangerous idiot who should be kept away from roads and cars, I will say this:

With AT you have an OPTION of driving using your left foot for braking. I mean all the time, not as momentarily used racing technique.

I do it in my car, and find it less fatiguing in stop-and-go traffic. I know what stop-and-go traffic is, DC area successfully competes with LA for the worst-traffic-prize.

Possibly more importantly, I feel better connection with the car, with faster reaction times and faster gas-to-brake (or vice versa) transitions.

People will tell you this will ruin your trasmission, cause you to mix up pedals, cause you to wear your pads and annoy drivers behind you with your brake light constantly on, squeeze your balls, prevent you from ever driving an MT, cause puppies, kittens and babies all over the world to die horrible deaths and start a nuclear war. (more here: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=100252)

I am a living example that none of the above is not true (well, not so sure about puppies, kittens and babies, but I don't care).

Of course, if you want to do it, spend some time learning with nobody else in the car and more importantly no one driving behind you. Your first left-foot-brakings will be probably very abrupt.

I haven't used left foot for braking since I was a kid playing video games. The pedals are so close together, my legs are uncomfortable being squished together. Not to mention the need for space for ya know.

I live about 30 minutes from Torrance and I'd say go with manual. Like others have said, traffic sucks in general. Eventually, driving a manual will become normal to you and you just kinda do it without really noticing it. Also, I'll never get tired of hearing my exhaust every time I change gears and down shift/heel toe hehe.

A person lacking testicular fortitude.

Please note: having or not having actual testicles has nothing to do with this.

Hey M did you get a FRS/BRZ yet? I tried your left foot thing at the dealer last time I was in and the position just sucks big time. The brake pedal in these things are really way too far over to be even remotely comfortable.

No, I said I drive a manual and, in general, am not a *****, so when the rare moment that driving a manual might be annoying, I dont think "I wish I'd gotten an automatic."

Bruh...

OP, go with an automatic. You won't regret it. Just in case anyone is curious, I drive a MT.

auto if you drive a lot in traffic but manual for the fun :3 I would recommend you borrow or rent a manual practice driving and ask some with experience to come with on free time. get a feel of it than decide what you'll be going for

I've never owned an auto but when I do borrow my dad's truck for transporting things. it's super relaxing lol but I stand by my decision. in the future planning to get a Lexus and it'll be auto for DD and keep my frs for fun drives
