The TZ110 still hasn't turn up so I've checking out other cameras in the meantime. I have known of the P900 for sometime but had never investigated it before. Do I really want one? No, but I'm kind of thinking I wouldn't mind one for a couple of weeks. Under sunny daylight the results are quite acceptable for me. The the usual small sensor caveats apply: noisy at low iso, poor low light performance, contrast focusing. BUT it is a hand held zoom monster for not a lot of money. Atmospheric conditions are relevant!

TZ110 has arrived.
Preface.
It is all relative to what one is used to. If you are used to using a full frame camera you are probably wondering why I am so happy about the camera's iso performance. All of my other digital cameras have had 1/2.3" or 1/1.7" sensors. It was iso 100 or at a pinch 200. To have usable pictures at 1600 is such an advancement I am still a little in awe. The camera is feature rich but I am still wading through the options and deciding which will actually be a benefit. So far I am extremely happy with it but I don't know how to explain to the wife I accidentally ordered the Nikon DL18-50. This is a boring pic BUT it is hand held at 1/2 second.

I've been enjoying playing with the new camera. For its intended purpose I think it is a winner! It fits in my pocket, the zoom range is acceptable.
By the way. Before putting a deposit down on the DL18-50 I asked the camera shop assistant if I could have a look through an 18mm lens or equivalent to get an idea of the fov. I was given a Canon 5DS with a 16-35mm set to 18mm. F**k me!! It is not a small set up!! I haven't picked up an slr since I was using film. Yeah yeah. Compromise and all of that but I lost any interest I sort of had in big cameras. Seriously, it was a monster. Then again, its sensor is about the same as the frontal area of my camera. Well, slight exaggeration. I hope the wife gets a new handbag soon because that will make explaining another camera just that little bit easier. Anyhoo.

Further thoughts on the Panny TZ110:
It is feature packed. Lens isn't as sharp across the frame as I was hoping but maybe DXO software will be able to improve that when they release the update (supposedly in August). I am not expecting miracles given the physical size of the lens. I am happy with the iso up to 1600 on occasion. 800 is usually acceptable. For its intended purpose I rate this camera very highly.

The Lambo was with the Sigma, the other two were taken with 70-300 Tamron.

There I was considering the state of the universe wondering about the DL18-50. It has been delayed due to the earthquake in Japan and other technical issues. It might be released in November but but that is only conjecture.
I considered the alternatives and this has come to mind: A (secondhand) Panasonic GM5 (they are tiny for a m4/3 camera) plus Panny's 7-14mm lens. It is a stop slower than Olympus' version but is smaller and (more importantly) cheaper. I did consider Oly's 9-18mm 4.0-5.6 (tiny!) but stuff it. If I'm going wide then I'm going wide. Would people care to share their thought's/experience's with wide?

Finally upgrading my gear - since my uncle is getting married soon and requested I do the photography and a KEH Camera email with discount code came in today. For less than $500 total I ordered an Olympus E-3, HLD-4 grip, and FL-50R flash. Really looking forward to the upgrade from the E-1, which has seen better days and not sure how much longer if will last but has served me well for a very long time (about 12 years!) Now I can finally use the FP-1 flash grip to its full potential with the FL-50R!
Current state of my kit with the E-1: ![]() Latetly, my Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 has become my main all around P&S, though it is only really good at outdoor photography or extremely well lit subjects indoors... From this weekend: ![]() ![]()
