Reading that Fram air filter thread reminded me I'm due for an air filter replacement. To get oiled or dry, decisions, decisions.

Definitely, I've told this story before, but one summer my Aunt, Mother, brother, two sisters, a full grown German Shepherd names "Rags" and I took a 500 mile trip between NC and KY in a '64 Volkswagen Beetle through the mountains before Interstates. My baby sister was 1 and sat in my mothers lap the entire trip in the front. The other three of us (12,10,8) and the dog rode in the back. The two ladies would be in jail if we did this in the last 10 years I suspect.

And I have told the story of riding around in my dad's truck when I was 7 or 8 before. No floor, no doors, no seat belts and the only safety precaution was the instruction "hang on". Now he wouldn't take corners too fast anyway because he would spill his drink and whisky was expensive! Wouldn't make it 2 blocks without ending up in jail now.

I think the goal of paying off the car by its 1 year birthday might have been *too* ambitious, didn't figure regular maintenance + other factors into calculations. I'll see when b-day rolls around next month.

I know, right?? Seems like yesterday when I asked "how to drive a manual in traffic" and when you and @Ultramaroon attempted to sway me to your sides with awesome shots of the car.

Just to think, if the dealership responded back to me, I would be driving in an ultramarine that was a bit cheaper than the lava I paid for. :P

Not to discourage you from exploring your options but clearly you are an IT success. You've been noticed.
