Actually I think if anyone is replacing the stock wheels with other 17x7 they are probably doing it to stay in stock autocrossing class. It's usually a lighter rim too so it's functional in that it improves the performance of the car. So a little bit more than personal preference. Whereas a hellaflush setup is just for appearance.

I remember some time attack evo that had stretched tires, and dominated its class

a little bit of stretch will give a flatter contact patch.
miata guys run stretch for that reason.. and ive seen some other time attack/track cars running mild stretch also.

So, 'mild' stretch would be? The pic of the blue 86 running a 225 tire on a 9.5 rim?

mild stretch is certainly not a 225 on a 9.5. 235 or 245.

It all depends on the tire manufacturer though. They all have different compounds and slightly different sizes (even though they may be 235/35s or whatever), meaning some stretch more than others.

yup.. a few companies run larger... so a 225 fits like a 235 or 245.
i ran 195s (federal 595 rs-r fit like 205 on front) on my 9s on my ae86... for drifting... a little too much stretch for grip.

i will be running 225 or 235 on 9.5s... but thats with a r888 or similar all the way around.

This looks really nice and nowhere near as aggressive as the wider stuff. I think this look is perfect. Not digging the shiny wheels though, I would go with the regular silver instead, but pretty sweet anyway.

Looks like the STI lip, with garden edging along the bottom of it.

Also, the less concave ones just don't do anything for me. Darn
