Cost. The idea was to have a Ferrari that was affordable and not a piece of shit. The proposed way to accomplish this was to swap out the unreliable and expensive to maintain engine

In general, no matter what classic I end up with, it will get a new engine for one simple reason, which Ashi was kind enough to hit the nail on the head about. I'm becoming more a car guy every day I drive my FR-S, but that still doesn't mean I'm a huge fan of the idea of spending weekends underneath my car trying to fix it. I want a reliable car. My idea classic will always be restomodded, brand new underneath, old and classic on top. The Ferrari idea specifically though, was to fix the issue with their overall cost of ownership. The one I linked is both a cheap Ferrari, and one no one cares about so it would be easy to hack it up without anyone caring.

Also, think of all the trolling you could do with it. Tell people you drive a Ferrari, they get all excited and want to go for a ride in it, you say sure! And when you show up they're severely disappointed by its appearance. They think it sucks. But you've also set it up perfectly and it's a sleeper monster, so you proceed to liquefy their eyeballs with acceleration. Two times the trolling, one old Ferrari.

I think the term "classic"gets thrown around a lot. Everyone seems to think anything labeled classic is amazing. But I'll bet I could take a "classic" 1970 Honda Accord(or whatever) and turn it into a Mad Max buggy and not one fuck would be given... Change the notoriously shitty engine in a Ferarri that can easily be out performed by a just about any car today and everyone freaks out. Why? Because Ferraris are fast? Cuz a 70s Ferrari isn't fast by today's standards so why does anyone care? "Classic"= outdated

Haha I don't, but I also don't feel like putting up with people's crap, so if I did it to one people cared about I'd have to listen to bitching everywhere I went, forget that.


But also, there is a small part of me that believes certain classics should be left alone as well and I don't want to destroy them anymore than anyone else.

Because there are purists. That's why. Seems it's mostly the case with exotics. But there is that same crowd with classic muscle. A family friend recently rebuilt a '69(lol) Camaro SS, that's basically just the shell on top of a C6 Corvette. Looks, sounds and performs amazing. But, he talks about the huge amount of people at shows who just hate everything it stands for because it's not period correct. Everything from the wheels to the racing bucket seats.

At the end of the day, you're always going to come across someone who doesn't like what you've done with your car.

Exactly. So why care? I don't like stock vehicles. I especially hate vehicles that are intentionally stock and called "so clean" etc... the Honda guys are really bad about this. I can take a civic iff some grandma who just drove it to bingo and kept it in a garage, put TE37s on it and go win a trophy... WTF is that shit? You get scene points for not modifying your car?
