DCC is pretty dang cool and really works for bad roads vs good roads. A wonderful daily driver. The two things that I was not impressed with was the power down low (I guess I am used to my WRX which spools boast faster) and the handling. People praise the handling on these cars but I never felt that connected to the car even on track/race DCC settings. It felt very artificial and somewhat vague. I dunno. I got back in my 15 WRX and thought it felt much more dialed in. The STI even moreso.

I need to drive it again and play with the individual DCC settings. Perhaps I can dial it in more. As for the power, don't get me wrong the R pulls really hard once you hit 3K RPM and it just keeps pulling. But the new GTI feels more responsive down low and I am spoiled now with boast down low from my WRX.
Ive known a few WRX owners trade for a Speed 3 or GTI. The GTI however is awesome, and still find myself regretting not getting that over the FR-S (dealers wouldn't budge so I went over to Scion's....Pure Pricing )...

No different from the OP's dilemma lol...Dat DSG tho

I haven't driven a WRX ever or really all that many cars besides my BRZ, my primary point of comparison is my 2013 Camaro that was totaled a few years back before I bought the BRZ.

The BRZ handles far better than the Camaro needless to say, and I didn't really miss the power all that much (I had a V6 Camaro, shame on me). You can wring out the BRZ much more on public roads and still be safe, so I'd argue that for daily driving it's quite a bit more fun.

On the practicality standpoint, despite being a smaller car, the BRZ wins big-time because you can fold the rear seats down. The rear seats are useless for transporting people, but i you don't need to bring a lot of people around, the trunk with seats down will hold quite a lot of stuff, more than the WRX's trunk alone could by a long shot. The BRZ is my only car and it's been more than practical enough for my needs.

I'd advise you test drive the BRZ and Miata and pick whichever one you prefer.

To give you an idea:

I went from a 2012 WRX to a 2013 FR-S to a 2016 STI.

In terms of an all around vehicle, I'd rate them:
1. '16 STI
2. '12 WRX
3. '13 FR-S

In terms of a fun vehicle, I'd rate them:
1. '13 FR-S
2. '16 STI
3. '12 WRX

In terms of which was my favorite car:
1. '16 STI & '13 FRS (tied)
3. '12 WRX

Moral of the story:

The '12 WRX was a great all around vehicle, but in terms of driver involvement, it was absolute shit. Steering had no weight or feedback, transmission was crap, and the whole chassis felt flimsy an neutered.

The FR-S was FANTASTIC! In stock form, I feel like it's just way too bland and boring. I honestly couldn't stand the car when it was stock. A few small changes made it a million times better though and was definitely the most fun car I've ever owned.

My current STI is definitely the all around best car I've owned. Why? Because im 10k miles into it and still don't feel the need to modify it a bunch. It's still pretty much stock to; just brake pads, fluid, and some bushings etc. It does everything I need it to do, and does it well. It has its shortcomings, sure.. But as an all around vehicle, I couldn't ask for much else.

If it were me, I'd go to the BRZ as the previous gen WRX is garbage, unless there's a specific reason as to why I needed/wanted the WRX, like AWD, or 4 doors.

EDIT: Just saw you made the switch. Congrats!
