Indiana University Bloomington came back and my total scholarship would be raised from $90,000 to $112,500 (started at $75,000). I have until May 1st to commit. This would leave me with about 43k in tuition to pay for.

SMU did something similar to me. Initially put me on a waitlist and then called back offering me all sorts of money. Can be a good deal, but I think your original plan is still best.

Agreed. I think the only real benefit going to IU-B would have is that it's less regional. Places only 30% of it's graduates in Indiana and the rest all over. But, when we're talking a full ride and free living expenses vs. 40k in tuition plus housing, it doesn't seem worth it.

Ok so I visited IUB after getting a request from the Dean of admissions for a meeting. I loved the school and Bloomington. He later sent me an email telling me he wanted to talk to me regarding something I'd be very interested in. The deadline for their offer is this Sunday. Assuming I end up getting a full ride from them, do you think the cost of living expenses would make it worth it to go there over UC? I'm so torn. For what it's worth living there is cheap with housing costing between $350-600. But, UC also would allow me to stay at home, and to work for OIP which I'm very interested in as well..I have been going back and forth on what to do. This whole process has been driving me crazy

It's all good. I ended up depositing at UC. I was going back and forth and still am but I couldn't seem to justify the 60ish thousand in living expenses at IU over UC. I loved the campus, the dean, and everything about my visit, but UC will allow me to stay in Cincy, live at home, work with OIP, and better position me to at least start off in Ohio after graduating.
FWIW I did also consider sitting out a year and retaking...thanks to good ole TLS ha ha. Don't see that happening though, I think UC will be sufficient for what I want to do. Thanks for all of your advice and help along the way everyone!

Smart move skipping out on the $$$$ to go elsewhere. There are some schools and some scenarios where that makes sense, but they are the exception rather than the rule. Overall, you will have a better outcome and you will invariably have more options for post-graduation placements if you are not hamstrung with debt at the back end of the process.
