Went on a beer and wasp-killer spray run and conducted a few experiments to confirm what I already knew. I'm willing to bet that an AT can drop two gears faster than a typical driver in an MT.

True, however I don't remember that last time it was in "auto". But muh driver involvement! People who blame the trans for lack of velocity or fast gear changes have a PEBWAS (problem exists between wheel and seat) problem. I just hold and wave my James May type fizzie massively erect penis around like a shift-lever if I feel the need for more involvement in the process. The people in the dust behind me can't see that, though.

In manual mode, it is still an automatic. It will still shift for you if you don't paddle it.

Downshift only (and a downshift over-rev nanny) but at that point you are in single-digit speeds anyway so who cares. Maybe there are people who drive around in sixth all the time and enjoy the shakes. Anyway, the point still stands. Willing to bet an AT can shed two gears as fast (or faster) than an MT.

Sad that so many FR-S drivers self-worth and awesomeness is wrapped up in what sort of trans they have. This is the first AT I've ever had and its a blast, and I don't give a second thought about how great the other guy is because he has an MT. I just enjoy the look of frustration on his face in the mirror.

Edit: I'm going to convert mine to a three-in-the-tree and lord my awesomeness over all.

Hey Cat, haven't you figured out yet that to many here any auto is the equivalent of an old 2 speed Powerglide? There is a whole generation there that believe MT and RWD are weird and wonderful mysteries that only the truly awesome can manage and if you don't want the same then you are just not in their league.

I'm getting that impression, yes. Perhaps it's just the old farts who no longer care at all what somebody else thinks of their transmission, who first learned to drive a on tractor and an Edsel, and that only those with "unmad-skillz" blame the machine for piss-poor ability.

Sucks major ass for someone who could not have fun in an AT Twin. Hint, it's not the transmission.

Since I typically shift before redline when driving "normally" or just above when driving for fun, I doubt an AT is in any danger of blowing up. Where do people get this stupid shit? Given the nanny's, an AT is probably (in general) at less risk of operator error than an MT. Or do you mean engine?

If making a joke; LOL!

But, I drive an AT too and it won't shift "for you" into a higher gear.

You're right, it is a blast. I don't miss the third pedal at all.
Cool, thanks.

You sure had to think about that reply for a while. You that slow in your car as well? I guess I can understand your disbelief. Why is your ego so wrapped up in the type of transmission your car has? An AT Might actually be fun? Fast? Quick? Are your skillz mad?

Is that supposed to mean something? Maybe in 1974 when we were short on gas and someone thought the Mustang II was a good idea. 0-60 6.4 is trash in this post-Obama era.

No, I really wouldn't wish for an STi in this situation because those still need to spool for the sweet torque right?
I believe I know what you're getting at. As you begin ease into the woeful brake pedal and mash down on he hollow bottom clutch in your head you know you're just going to have to wind this thing back up again. God forbid you leave it in gear to let the car creep, it will certainly buck and jive with displeasure at that thought. No, the FT86 requires you to keep your foot at least near the clutch pedal to maintain any sort of civility in traffic.

Yes, in traffic the car is utter shit. I've mentioned this before, maybe.

As far as the OP:

I know a guy with a GTR who has considered selling it and getting a Lamborghini more than a few times. What keeps him from doing so are a few reasons:

1. He's already sunk enough money into the GTR to where he's faster than most slightly modified Lambos
2. The depreciation on even modified GTRs isn't bad at all, so getting at least it's value minus what he's put in won't be an issue.
3. He just really really loves his goddamn GTR.

You haven't sunk any money into yours, so there isn't any sunk cost involved with trading/selling it.

These cars depreciate much faster than any Subaru/Toyota for whatever reason, so you're losing money quickly in it. If you modify it, I think this is a car that modifications hurt the resell value.

If you don't feel any attachment to the car, it's best to let it go before you develop one.
