@Tcoat, we've discussed the pros and cons of DIY quite a bit. 2 years ago I payed a well respected shop to replace the trans in the Acura. Those fucking bozos WAY overtorqued every fastener they touched. Aluminum block, mind you. They stripped the threads out of one of the anchor points for an engine mount. I could tell someone tightened until it yielded, said "oops, oh shit" and let it slide.

Fuckers. You cannot pay people to give a shit. Ever.

Hence why for most stuff, I'll do it on my own. At least if something like that happens, it's on me, and not some shit bird that over charged me who still fucked it up and didn't bother fixing it.

Like when the shop did my first set of coils, and didn't tighten up the preload on 2 of them. I went back to them and was like "wtf guys?" And they told me it was normal for the preload to back off., and that I should have come back to them 100km after install to get it retorqued.

Reinforces my perfect record of never ever having a good experience with "professionals."

Bullshit! If that was the case, and we know it wasn't, why didn't they give you explicit instructions to come back for the follow-up. Damn liars.

That's the thing. It's obviously not normal, it was an install snafu. When I installed my second set, I did make sure the preload was tight, and I didn't have an issue with it being loose ever again.

I'm thankful for this car giving me the mod bug and having me learn a lot of stuff about turning wrenches. There's a small list of things that I'll have a shop do, and most of that is due to a lack of confidence or tools on my part.

The Meguiars kit.

Just not my cup of tea. I found no joy in doing it whatsoever.

Recommend getting a pair so you aren't chasing burned out lamps. I learned that lesson the hard way. It's much nicer when you don't have to replace alternate sides every year.

Ummm Cole, did you strip any wax off the car before clay baring? I figured out after about 10 minutes of my first cay bar session that I was trying to pull wax off and wasn't even touching the paint yet. Went and got some wax removing cleaner (forget what it was called) washed the car again and the clay bar was about75% easier and more effective. Also tried a couple of different sprays as lube and found the Turtle Ice spray detailing cleaner/wax was the most effective and easiest to us.

Yup. Just wasn't worth all the effort. So like I said, just made the paint smooth and moved on
