Therefore, I am returning to PC gaming!

My overall budget I'm not looking to exceed is about $600-700. Any tips and suggestions on where to start? All externals are accounted for (mouse, keyboard, etc.) I would just be spending that much on the tower and it's components. A good sample size of games I would be playing are CS:GO, BF4, and Street Fighter V.

I have built a Core i5 4670 non k computer for about 600 and that was without a graphics card. I could have saved some money here and there but the build was constrained to a 8in x 7in cubby.

One thing you might want to consider is your quality target. Like do you want to just have games playable at medium - high settings or do you want to handle everything at high settings? Are you going for a 1080p resolution or more? For a playable at medium to high settings at 1080p I could see $700.

I think AMD parts will be the easiest way for you not to break you budget but I have not had the best experience with AMD. That's not saying that it doesn't work. I was able to play the games I wanted to play but sometimes things just didn't seem to be performing up to par.

Also if you got to YouTube and look up Linus tech tips 2015 holiday gaming guide you could use that as you baseline. Hopes this helps!

The i5 4690k seems to be the best deal in processors, the i7 isn't worth it. Get a gtx970 video card, also best bang for your buck by far. The other components don't seem to have as much affect.

Here is a quick build I pieced together I was considering building one similar to this https://pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/

If you are going to be playing games that have to calculate where users are and other things due to playing online or open world type games a good processor will help. The increase I saw in fallout 4 with my overclock was what got me to the frames I wanted and thats because I'm running an r9 390 oc'd. I understand that it seems like amd is down for the count compared to the many series of core i processors but they can still perform. If you really want to stick to a budget amd is the way to go. I will admit I have been tempted to throw in the towel and build an Intel rig but I can't justify the cost especially when seeing that an overclock is all I needed to get my frames to where I wanted.

I've decided to hold out on upgrading my pc until the new generation of fx processors come out I don't care about being bleeding edge or best benchmark machine. As long as I can play my games comfortably with the settings I want I'm 100% satisfied. I respect everyone's choices on their builds its just ultimately up to you. If I had the cash of course I would build a nice Intel rig but team red has fulfilled my needs so far.

yeah going back in time I wouldn't have gotten the i7 4790k. oh well such is life.

on the topic of budgets. I went over budget by about 600 bucks lol... my budget was about 1100, after all was said and done with the complete build I was at around 1700.

I was supposed to still have my budget build. I had a modest fx8320 build but when the Bitcoin boom came around my 7950 was worth $450. I got it used for $220 and quick sold it for $400. Turned around and got a 780. Then was able to get $100 of my 4790k from a friend. Have never looked back since though totally worth every penny... To me at least!

Still looking forward to AMD's offerings late 2016. It will be nVidia Pascal vs. AMD Arctic Islands. AMD just showed its core pipeline and its definitely got some innovations, I'll upload screenshot if I can find it.

man I haven't played PC games in like 3 months. Been on PS4 playing far cry primal, Arkham Knight and here and there Dying Light.

beat Fallout 4. It sucks. 4/10 for my liking.

The reviews are generally positive. I haven't played the first 2. How would you rate it as a stand alone game?
