So if an insurance company exists to pay you whatever you demand, regardless of fault or activity, risk pool, age, regardless of how much you pay and is soon driven out of business, what is your alternative?

Like I said in my post "How consumer-friendly they are varies widely from state to state."

It's not that simple. Did you read the guys situation? It's not a matter of the insurance covering a track accident. It's about the insurance not renewing because he takes his car to the track.

I'm not going to call my insurance and say "I know you don't cover my car on track but I'd like to inform you I regularly drive my car to, from, and on racetracks. Have a nice day!"

What is the point of that. What is that going to do besides get someone dropped from their insurance or their rates hiked or something. If I wreck driving to the track are they going to deny my claim because I was going to "race". If I wreck driving to work are they going to deny my claim because I was at a track last weekend?

No good can come to the customer by bringing it up. So why should they?

Me personally, I got t-boned by someone ran a stop sign at a track day when I went off the premises to buy lunch in town. I was on a public road in a street legal car like anyone else. Do I not deserve coverage because I was "racing" that day?
there was a new thread, where a guy asked about people's experience with insurance companies and racing activities. That thread was referred to this thread; so I replied on this thread.

My reply was based on being asked about other people's experience with insurance companies. When did I say anything was simple?

Specifically, I replied with a counter point that you should speak to them as soon as you buy the car, to make sure your insurance agent isn't going to do something stupid like that. In my case I made sure to get documentation and agreement about when I'm covered and when I'm not.

Others argued that not telling your insurance isn't risky, but that seems to be exactly what everyone is discussing. The agreement seems to be "don't tell them, and they won't know". Which is injecting risk, because they could find out.

In regards to your final question; my post specifically shows my agent's response - yes; you are covered (I would be covered).

tldr; I was just trying to give my opinion and experience that admitting it up front is better than explaining why you never mentioned it. My insurance company cooperated and I haven't lost coverage. I told them I track the car 3 years ago when I bought it. Nobody agrees with me, that's cool. Do your own thing; but I only posted because somebody asked for experiences.

I agree with you! I would want to know right up front and the only way to find out is to ask. Would I run the risk of not getting coverage? Maybe, but then I would know and could shop the next place. I would greatly prefer some agreement up front even if that agreement means just signing off that I understand the car is not covered during race events.

You'd think insurance companies would rather cover legit racing, keeping it off the streets... Maybe even improving driver skills and improving odds. Heck, I'd pay a 5-10% premium, and I can afford to walk away from my car (not a commuter car. It would hurt like heck but wouldn't destroy me financially)

Then again... I've now seen airbags deploy at an AutoX. Probably pushing a tiny bit too hard (trophied with a cone on run 2, 3 was the end...)

We had to drive around a drunk driving crash to get to the event and I saw 5 lanes at a standstill for an accident on the way home. I know what's safer.
