Help with Bitcoin
Does anyone here use the currency? I need it for an overseas purchase - there is a place 5 minutes from me that sells bitcoin for cash (an actual shop) and I REALLY want to talk to someone for a minute or two so I don't get ripped off.
I am trying to figure out what reasonable fees are for the amount of ONE bitcoin. I know it varies minute to minute, but is anyone here that can spare 2 minutes of their time? I buy and sell gold, silver, coins and stuff - and I get exactly how spot pricing works, what is reasonable to buy and sell at, and I like the idea of being able to go into a shop, trade my money for the BTC and physically see it show up on my phone while I am there. This is likely a one (or 2) time purchase, and I know the single BTC will cost me around $500 from the shop guy yesterday, or you can do it online via paypal for a 10% surcharge. (OMG.. these guys are making a killing if that is standard). REALLY hoping to get someone here to talk to for a sec today. There is just too much info, and I am looking for someone to talk to. Just for a minute or two. Can anyone help? If so, could you PM me, and I can PM you my cell #? |

No, not anymore (I bought from them years ago, and they did take CC's at that time).
They accept international money orders, local payments, cash, and BTC. Not to sound condescending, but don't you think if I could of placed an order with a CC or paypal, I would of done it? LOL. I am specifically asking for BTC help. And I realize what type of payment it is. There are not "refunds", and it's like mailing someone cash, except - it isn't. I have a transaction record. It doesn't mean the company COULDN'T screw me over, but I doubt it. It's no big deal, if I can't get people to reply with helpful info for the questions I need answered, then I'll just go buy the 1 BTC at $480 and go from there. It's not important what I am trying to buy, nor is it important what other methods of payment they accept. I can assure you they do not take CC's and paypal anymore. |

Well in my honest opinion any company who only takes payment methods that are uninsured is untrustworthy. As far as Bitcoin itself goes the price of it is ever changing I wouldn't recommend taking advise on it from someone on a forum. I would study the history of it myself. As far as percentages go if say anything over 2% is too much

It's a big shady gig in the wild wild west of merchant payment processing. I set up a bitcoin account for a law firm I worked at to accept bitcoin, and it was somewhat of a pita. Purchasing the same amount of bitcoin from one hour to the next will be different, it's more volatile than the regular currency exchange rates. I would use a middle man company like coinbase or bitpay. Set up a coin "wallet" and purchase bitcoin when it's best. Use them to process the payment for some form of tracking and confirmation.
Off topic side note: still would recommend avoiding at all costs. A company who takes bitcoin but no ach or wire transfers is shady imo. Unless this is a very exclusive product, you may save some heartache and brain damage by trying somewhere else, but like you said that's not entirely specific to your actual question... |

Like, if someone said you can buy 3 BTC and pay a lot less in fees, than 1 BTC, I'd be about that. It's not the "money" cost per se, it's the fact that I don't like to find out after the fact that I got a little ripped off. AND the reason I am asking, when I got into precious metals (gold, silv, plat, palladium) and coins, my first few thousand dollar purchases could of been smarter. I leveraged it out later with other purchases, but I just don't want to lose up front and that's why I am trying to find a few things out. Problem with google and stuff, there is TOO much info, and who knows who it's really out to benefit. I don't have any friends or family to ask about BTC because they wouldn't be ordering anything with it. |
