I think you misunderstood my point. I am not saying you should ever turn it off on the street. I am saying even with it on you can still crash from being stupid and driving the car beyond safe limits.

For all the haters this can happen to anyone. Even in Audi, Porsche groups this happens. The difference is you get more people caring about how to prevent those situations rather then troll to flame someone. This is a rear wheel drive vehicle. Respect it as its built not as you think its built. We have 215 tires in the rear, and that spells trouble So not much oppo needed. Sorry for the loss amigo.... Hope insurance cuts you a good check.... Also go see a doctor you never know if you have a hair line fracture or herniated disc.

BTW you should start grabbing parts out of it its not like the insurance people care about seat covers "replace them with crap ones" and other stuff...

As for car, damn shame. I hope I don't see any of these for awhile at my shop. Parts probably aren't available yet... may take weeks to order parts.

I don't know about others, but after I had a big accident (spun around on highway during morning traffic), I respected my car for saving my life and have a greater respect for suspension.... just in case you're wondering, accident was due to my car needing rear toe adjusters after changing lower arms. Tires were toeing in, bad tread from toe in, also rainy weather and gravel on side on road. My fault for waiting so long to change parts....

Thanks for sharring ur story neutral! I totaled my first car two blocks from where i used to live because of careless driving while i was 17 on my dads 47th birthday... it was a traggic day but i learned my lesson and luckily walked away scratch free... Accidents happen to everyone... Lives are more important than cars; i'm happy to hear u and ur buddy are in good health. Thanks again for sharing!!!!

Glad you're OK. Now as for how this happened. I've never had nannies on any of my rear wheel cars, except ABS on a few. Learn to drive a 6500lb truck in snow and ice without 4 wheel drive and you can drive ANYTHING. The fact that we now have these nannies is making people complacent. The car tries too hard to keep you from killing yourself. Darwin would not approve!

Anyone new to rwd should go to a big empty parking lot and make a bunch of quick, sharp directional changes. See how the car reacts then practice preventing the car from doing whatever it does. It would prevent a LOT of incidents like this.

Tough lesson but at least you and nobody else got hurt!

Aww.. I keep looking at that poor thing's nose. As everyone has said, the most important part is you and the passenger walked away safely.

I used to turn the traction control off in my Si all the time, but that's a FWD car and the VSA was more a pain than it ever would help. Being my first RWD car and watching all the VSC videos, I dare not touch it on the FR-S.

I've done my fair share of stupid things on the road, I was just lucky that none of them resulted in something like this. While I've had moments in the Si where I've gone "uhoh, THAT was a bad idea" and recovered, I knew it could have ended badly if the conditions weren't right (traffic, location, etc).

Funny enough, the most terrifying one was in my first car, a Buick Century. Needless to say, not a performance car by any stretch of the imagination! My girlfriend at the time lived in a country area with some snaking roads that hardly anyone came down through. They had signs for "suggested 35mph turns" and honestly even that was a bit quick for some of them, especially the blind ones that had little-to-no shoulder.

I travelled that road quite often, so I felt comfortable taking them at decent speeds. One day, I was leaving her house in the morning to go to work and I guess I decided to push the limits on how fast I could take one of the turns. Needless to say, the Buick wasn't having it and I did a good 180 and landed in the ditch on the other side of the road. Fortunately, no damage to the car at all since it landed with the broad side parallel to the ditch. I was rattled so hard, I was shaking and looking around the car to make sure everything was fine -- not a scratch luckily. It's so scary when you turn from driver into passenger in your car, when you have no more control over the car when you lose traction.. it's a nightmare.

Just live and learn! Some lessons are more expensive than others but like everyone has said, it could have been a LOT worst. Sure, you feel sad over the car and scaring your passenger, but you don't have to worry about anyone's life on your conscious.
