You know what, I actually thought the same way back in 2006/7 (I distinctly remember uttering the words "its a dead sport" to my room mate) until I started sitting and watching games with him, who was really into it and used to play during college. I started seeing the little intricacies and strategy that comes into play and got pretty into it. It was also around the same time I read moneyball, so the nerd in me got into the stats, which then turned me into an A's fan, which peaked a couple of seasons ago when they made it to the post season with a bunch on (then) nobodies a few times in a row.

Also, go Sharks! but they are just as heart breakingly disappointing as my A's have been. How 'bout them Warriors eh? (the chicago bulls of this generation)
