Will someone be kind enough to post on how to tell if it is or isn't activated and if it's not activated, how to do so?

sure....open with window/ get out/ lock the door with the key fob or handle/ walk away and put the key far away from the car so the car can not " see" it/ come back to the car in 2 mins/ reach through the open window and open the car door/ if you have the alarm activated, the horn and lights will flash! Then the crickets come out from under the hood and attack you!!

When the alarm is activated does it still do the beep thing or is that replaced with the horn?

So I tried the procedure and confirmed that mine is on. Single honk. But when I tried to trigger the alarm by putting my keys in a far place and open the door from the outside nothing happened. Am I missing something?

Make sure you lock the car and wait a few mins before you open the door through the open window. If nothing happens your alarm is off (or you dont have it)

Mine has always done the beep, with both the alarm activated and deactivated.

I thought that all BRZ limited versions have the alarm?

They do, but you have to turn it on most of the time.

Another helpful hint for those with an automatic transmission trying to activate the alarm - the handbrake must be on!

So even though I went through the entire process, it wouldn't have worked because I didn't have the handbrake on? WTF?!

Thanks I'll try it again with it on.

Yeah, I tried maybe five or six times without success, then I thought that pulling the parking brake would help, since it's also required when using the Nav System. And it worked on the first try after that.
