Camber bolts and toe alignment
I pick up some camber bolts for my 2016 BRZ. Visually I can see the added camber. Based on some crude camber devices, the front, maxed out on the bolts, is very comparable to the rear camber. I am guessing around 1.0 degrees. I was worried about the change on the front toe from adding the camber bolts and increasing front camber. I check the front and rear toe today and was a bit surprised by the results. The rear shows around 1/16 total toe in. The fronts are very close to zero toe. I didn't measure the toe before adding the camber bolts. Perhaps the toe was off some from the factory. Does the BRZ gain or lose toe with increased camber. Granted it is only around 1.0 degree decrease, but I didn't know how much the toe would change. Comments?

The front toes in when adding negative camber. That said, the tie rods iare not very far out of plane of the control arm so change is not drastic.

I think 1/16 is pretty close to spec, both front and rear change with camber but its a small change. I wouldn't worry about it. Or get an alignment, shouldn't need toe arms though

I was just surprised the toe didn't change or changed very little. I should have checked the toe before adding the camber bolts. Even just picking up around 1.0 degree negative camber from the camber bolts made a big difference on the feel and turn-in on the front end. Now the front end doesn't feel like it just wants to push in the corner. Best $10 I ever spent.

Hmmm. Adding camber via bolts should not change toe more than a negligible amount.
Messing around with camber plates is a different story. It's the pivot point. Caster, camber, toe and even effective spring ratio can be influenced by moving that point around. Very powerful in skillful hands, but prone to errors if not done right. |
