Ordering from Japanparts.com

Has anyone ordered from Japanparts.com? How does their shipping work to Toronto or Ottawa? Any experiences would be appreciated Thanks,

yeah, I've used them a few times and they are great! Ive only had them deliver small stuff in boxes of less than 30x30x30cm and everything has been delivered on the first day of expected delivery range. Always have a tracking number and they always have done a good job packaging for me.
They are my go-to when I want a unique part and all my sti + spoon chassis stuff has come from them as they sell in yen so even after the high-ish shipping costs they usually end up being cheaper than US retailers like bulletproof.

Thanks for comment, do they ship to your door? I'm looking at large parts like a bumper and side skirts and the shipping options are freight or air which I believe is to airport or something. And how bad are the duties/taxes?

I didn't get charged for duties somehow on all the purchases I made, not sure if its due to some free trade program or just just straight luck. You will be paying taxes for sure though.
For large stuff like bumpers, Ive emailed them in the past and they said you would have to pick them up at the airport but they offered to assist me in knowing where and when to show up at the airport to get my shipment which was nice... iirc they said all body pieces are unavailable for shipment to your door

So how come you guys chose to purchase through them and not through local shops i.e. Nextmod, JRP, Wheelsco (or your local after market gurus)? Does Japanparts offer more competitive pricing or simply local shop can't obtain these parts?

You are right, either it comes out way cheaper via Japanparts or unavailable locally (e.g. Nextmod marks up STI stuff 100% MSRP lol).

I think Japanparts pricing is even more competitive than sellers on Rakuten and eBay.

The only part I've bought via the local Subaru dealer instead is the STI front lip since no shipping charge and possible shipping damage is avoided.

You'll get lucky without being taxed usually on small packages via EMS/Canada Post. They use UPS/FedEx for larger items and you will get taxed for sure.

I'm looking at the seaport option (least expensive). Anyone chose to deliver using that option? (Toronto has a port...)

I've used Japan Parts for a bunch of stuff, the largest of which being fenders.

Certain sized parts can not be shipped via EMS (their postal service) and will be extremely expensive due to having to use a courier. They include Tax/Duty on their shipments, which is why it seems a tad on the expensive side.

If you're ordering something that CAN ship via EMS, it will be extremely fast and cheap to ship.

I've been using Japan Parts for a while, mostly due to the fact that you pay Canadian -> Yen conversion which is/was much better than Canadian -> US. I paid less than $600 CAD delivered for an oil cooler that was about $900 cad delivered out of the states.

Well, I've done a few orders through them. The worst one was where I ordered the Kakimoto exhaust, had to wait 3 months for it to be in stock, then got burned with around $350 in duty and brokerage fees upon delivery. I ended up paying near half of what the exhaust is worth in duty and fees.

Other than that, no bad experience with them

Is there a sweet spot for prices? Clear side markers are $91+s/h. Smoked are $109+S/h. Would i get more bang for my buck if I bundled stuff together? Or did a group buy?
