I'm pretty jaded so this is just my take on the situation. I totally didn't have kids for selfish reasons though. So much more time and money this way

And it sounds like you should seek some help on some of that!

Ask anybody that's ever had kids why they had kids and I bet you all of their responses start with "I".

"I've always wanted kids."
"I want to be a parent."
"I want to see the joy on their face."

It's all about what they want, always. Now, these people can be pretty selfish and be amazing parents, but it's still their choice. You know who never has a choice in the whole situation? The kid. They can't say, "Hey, you know what? I don't feel like coming out just yet." The parent makes the choice because it's all about what they want.

That's not inherently bad. If you look at anything like this, then everything is selfish. But, I had a friend that really wasn't/isn't financially capable of supporting a family that decided she wanted a kid. I asked why she was having a kid and her response was, "Why wait?" Now, she had the one kid and had another one accidentally and last time I checked they're doing fine, but I bet they have to cut back on a lot. Those kids will miss out on a lot or struggle, because she selfishly decided to have them now, instead of waiting a little longer. It wasn't a choice that considered the well-being of the life being brought into the world. She just had to have the kid.
