FR-S and BRZ Exhaust Compilation Thread

Last week, I bought an FRS with just 26K miles, thus still under powertrain warranty. This is the first car over 10k dollars that I bought myself, so I am looking to try and protect my investment so that I don't lose my a** if something breaks. However, the stock exhaust left too muchto be desired, so I dropped the dough for the TRD Exhaust and intake.

Here is how I feel:

Down low, there is a lot more noise, and the tone is very nice. However, moving up high, it is slightly louder than stock, but the tone fades to that of the stock exhaust.

Interestingly, while noticibly louder at low RPM's and on start up (especially cold start ), I don't hear it so much when simply idling in traffic, but it gets much louder as soon as I hit the throttle.
There is also slight and nice burble upon let off at any RPM.

My friend has a BRZ with a muffler delete and Ebay axle-back. It is loud and poppy, which is cool, but I prefer the tone of my exhaust. It is not too horrible at hwy speeds (60-80) although it is noticeable inside the cabin, and I'm a little nervous about the first long trip in it with the girlfriend.

Personally, I do not regret it. It sounds nice in and outside the car. On a side note, I read somewhere that the TRD intake reduces the intake sound inside the cabin (no sound tube) the only noise I don't here anymore is some of the more stressing engine noise, whereas I can here my throttle open up quite nicely now.

Is the TRD pricey? Yes. However, paying for a new engine by myself is far more pricey. It's hard to put a cash value on peace of mind. That being said, if I was not under warranty, I would have bought something less expensive with cash left over for a header. It is nice looking, well made, and provides a good tone.

Don't forget the TRD exhaust with get a little more loud after a wile. That's happen to me girlfriend remark this also. Still love this exhaust and still in good shape after years but I take care of it and I polish one or two time a year.

I am in the same boat as you.
From looking at YouTube vids over and over again the N1 is definitely louder than the Q300.
Some have said that Q300 almost sounds like stock just a bit louder. Others say N1 is too loud for everyday driving if its your daily.
Based on the videos I don't think N1 is as loud as they say.
I have yet to find a review by someone that has owned both exhaust but based on my research so far I will be going with the N1.

I just think the n1 drones a lot. Also with a catless header it seems to get loud as crap. But by itself it's probably a really good purchase.

bought the N1 it came to my house mext day. and its installed.
it makes the most beautiful deep sound and yes it drones between 2000-3500 3500-7500 is alot quieter and mostly engine noise.
i thinks its perfect for me and the titanium tips exit at a V instead of straight and looks killer.
was $593 new shipped from Reno off amazon.
install took 45 minutes with jacks and just myself.
be warned it does stink at first due to the oils burning off, smeels like hyour cars on fire lol

ive spent 1000s on exhaust in my days and this is definitely the best system-price ratio

Borla Rear Section Axle Back 11839

I took a chance a bought a Borla 11839 even though I could only find a couple of videos about it on youtube. This is similar to the dealer upgrade but I saw in photos comparing them in this forum that the actual muffler itself is smaller on the dealer option.

I wanted something that had more character and more volume. The first thing I tried on the BRZ was a Berk muffler delete. It sounded good but was too loud and had horrible drone around 2.5-3K (no surprises there). I should also mention that the rest of my exhaust is stock and will likely remain that way. Also, I don't want to spend a lot of money and want the ability to quickly return the entire car back to stock later if desired.

This Borla sounds really nice to me. It does not drone. There is a very slight drone when the seat backs are folded down but nothing at all compared to the muffler delete. Based on other review videos I would say this is probably a little louder than a Q300 or a Greddy SP Elite but definitely more quiet than an Invidia N1. I can hear it with the windows up or down and at most RPMs. At highway speed it is just slightly louder than stock.

The video I made, just like others, does not sound nearly as good as it does in real life unless you use decent earbuds or computer speakers.
