I ran into this a little bit. Sometimes it was a little tough getting into first gear. I made the switch to synthetic tranny fluid a few months ago (same mileage as you right now) and it shifts like butta and has seemed to go away.

If you can't put the car into first or reverse ALL of the time, your pressure plate might be toast. If it's intermittent, it's normalish.

I just rolled down the driveway and put her into first and started driving then after a short drive, reverse worked fine. Earlier today at a stoplight I could not put her into first. I was at a complete stop, clutched in and it felt as if I would break something if I were to jammed it into first.

Has anyone else had this problem? This has only happend once and it is my first MT car so I'm quite confused.

I dont know if this matters but maintence wise I have only done one oil change at 27k miles (got the car at 22500 miles) and going to bring her into the dealership to do a 30k soon.
I have only had trouble downshifting to 1st from 2nd but all that is speed. From a stop 1st is pretty smooth.

I've been driving stick for over 10 years. I've noticed that lately it's getting harder for me to get into first gear. It's not horrible, and it only takes an extra try, but it is noticeable. My 99 integra finds first immediately almost every time. My car only has 13k on it.

My only thought is maybe my tranny fluid should be changed? I'm still running the stock fluid.

I would change it. I changed mine at 2k miles after seeing YouTube videos of the crud that comes out. I'm at over 20k now, without any issues. It's tough to get it from 1-2 and 2-1 when it's not warm, but it's otherwise fine.

More than likely he changed it because of the reasons described in this thread.

If you wrote that with a straight face, I'm pretty sure he meant that he changed the fluid after only 2,000 miles because he had read about particulate in the transmission oil on the magnetic drain plug.
