Check out capital driving club. A bunch of us with twins run autox with them. Its more laid back than SCCA events and there are typically 10-20 frs/brzs at every event. The first one is on March 19th.

I was just going to post this. I'm planning on going to the 3/19 one, if I can get these wheels/tires on in time.

Have fun, don't worry about other people's time. Actually don't worry about time at all if it's your first time.

I know this is almost necro, but I just have to say I attended my first autox on Sunday (the Test 'N Tune) and it was an absolute blast. It was the CDC event in Frederick. The folks were terrific, and I had a friend riding shotgun with me as an instructor - and I rode shotgun with him as he drove. I was screaming like a (happy) 5 year old the whole time! I don't think I've ever had that much fun.

I've been going to autocross events for a while now, across four different cars and one thing that no one seemingly has mentioned is an UMBRELLA. Sounds stupid but it is very versatile. Helps in the rain, helps in the sun.

Get one.

First event ends up just being figuring out where to be, etc. You are barely driving the car and it's kind of an exhausting/daunting thing to be around all the other cars/drivers and the course while listening to the loud speaker and keeping up with what is going on.

It's exciting and fun, but if I could add to the other advice, it would be to not have a physical activity planned afterward. Also, please walk the course 3 times. The number of noobs who have come right at me while working the course is too damn high.

After a couple events you'll get a feel for if you are one of the guys who memorized the course on first run (usually because courses are similar in a region). But until then, 3 walks. In our region there is an instructor walk where an instructor walks the newer guys around the course explaining it. If your region has that, do it.

Sucks in the wind. I no longer use umbrellas - I find them unsafe.

Um, don't use them in tornadoes?

Walk the course, got it. I've done some go kart racing and am familiar with the concept of knowing the track. Cones are a different story so I'll definitely do my best to memorize it. I certainly don't want to kill any of the help. :-)

Thanks for all the advice guys!

Just remember, cones scatch paint. Nobody wants scratches, and nobody wants to chase cones :P

One other thing to remember...get all that shit out of your trunk and backseat. You can't have empty water bottles and mcdonald's french fries flying around on course.

The CDC group is great. My brother goes a few times a year in the silver swapped MR2 Spyder.
