I never said they were but I can see that I wasn't clear in my statement. I was specifically referring to the recent batch of high-powered live-axle boats being pumped out by Detroit that are no better than those from the 70s.

I have to try driving a newer Vette but I can't imagine it feeling that different from those a couple decades older.

Still, I broke free of a pack of slower cars this morning, looked down at my speedo and "holy shit 97!" brakes on, cooled my jets, and thanked my lucky stars I didn't pass an undercover cop.

New C7 Vette is nothing like I would have ever imagined and lightyears ahead of even the C6 gen.

Never had even considered Corvette (or Chevy) as a viable choice until I took a ride in a friends. It changed my entire perspective on it.

What live-axle boats? I'm not a fan at all of the oversized and overweight Mustang, Camaro, SS, Challenger, Charger, but they do all have independent rear suspensions... I think most people would say that they are "better" than those from the 70s! But I'd rather have a small-block '70-'72 Corvette than any of them...

They do! *smacks forehead* Wow, I have been living under a rock. I genuinely thought the '15 Mustang was the first muscle car to make the switch.

I took my BRZ over to the blue ridge parkway shortly after I had put the (restrained) first 1000 miles on it.

This is a road I had frequented many times in my NB miata.

I'm putting the BRZ through its paces and I notice I'm getting up near the top of third gear: 75-80mph. The speed limit is 45mph.

It is at this point I concluded the BRZ is too fast for the street.

Then again, so was my 140hp NB.

These other cars with 300-400+hp, I cannot imagine.

To a driver who wants to use and experience a majority of the potential of his car a majority of the time, modern cars are far too fast.

Dunno for sure if it was the first muscle car with it, but the 1961 Pontiac Tempest had IRS, a rear-mounted transaxle and an optional aluminum 3.5 liter V8! There is nothing new under the sun :P

I haven't driven a C7, but multiple C5s and C6s and I owned a C5Z. It is hard to quantify to someone who hasn't driven something fast AND handles well.... It is sorely missed in the BRZ, this car is severely lacking in the power department.

Yeah, doing some reading last night I discovered how backward I had it. Boy, the 80s were truly an abysmal time for Detroit. It's also interesting to learn just how much GM relied on Holden.
