2. use electricity to extract hydrogen from water, then pump the hydrogen to a car, then convert to electricity in fuel cell, then power an electric motor.

Common sense says that 1, but common sense is not always right, for example the cost (financial, energetic and environmental) of producing a battery is huge.

Also, some fuel cells produce harmful emissions like nitrogen dioxide, minute amounts, but still.

By the way, I do not believe in distributed solar power generation, in most places there is simply not enough sun and available roof surface for the needs.

Also, solar and wind are great but unpredictable sources, so before we rely on them, we must find out how to store electric energy on a large scale. Otherwise, after a few cloudy days with no wind, no one will be able to use their car, fuel cell or electric.

Tiny nuclear power plants under the hood of every car.

Battery and Hybrid vehicles are just the interim until Fuel Cell vehicles gain the infrastructure. The fuel cell vehicles are here, just not enough hydrogen stations.

Back to present reality. I hope the FT-1 isn't a complicated hybrid (i.e new NSX with it's huge price tag). I hope that the FT-1 is a Toy 86 on steroids.

Keep it simple. Turbo 6. Manual. Lightweight.

I'm dreaming, but dreams can come true.

It'll be heavy and overladen with gadget crap. Remember who is co-designing this.

Probably unreliable and expensive to fix as well.

I wonder if it's exactly the same as VSC Sport?

I'm sure it will be, to keep people safe. Unless holding it makes TC go completely off now

The eco-nimby's would NEVER allow a hydrolysis station anywhere near them. This is the same crowd who think wind turbines cause illness. Another win for nukes! Desalination for drinking water and ethanol production and fuel for your car.

Why would they not give (or have given) this project to Tada or one of his engineers? "Tada, nice work on the 86, even though corporate has no clue. See what you can do with this. Go nuts, but keep it under 60k as much as you can".

Because the Supra was never a lightweight "pure" sports car. Neither was the Z4. The Supra was a big Japanese GT / Muscle Car. In the Supra's heyday, the car you want was actually the FD RX-7. If the FT-1 stays true to the Supra design direction and BMW's design decisions of the last decade, the FT-1 will more likely be a big, powerful, expensive, heavy, loaded with electronic doo-dads GT, than a lightweight, retro sports coupe.

Which is what the 86 will evolve into on a smaller scale.
