Touch up paint smear help

So had a scratch on my hood. Got given on of those paint touch up pens from the dealership when I bought the car. So I thought I would give it a try. It seems that was a mistake. All I got left with was a big smear way wider than the initial scratch and it doesn't seem to be at all the same colour (yes it was asphalt coloured pen).

Any tips on how to correct this? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

I'd probably wet sand and then polish it. Room for error if you've never attempted that though. Dr Colorchip is a good touch up kit to make repairs like that easier next time.

The clear coat is very thin on our cars, be careful if you resort to wet sanding and use a very high grit like 2000. I tried to fix a scratch on my bumper and ended up making it look worse by sanding too much paint away when trying to level the touch up paint. Try adhesive remover or rubbing alcohol to remove the touch up paint. If neither help, try rubbing compound followed by polish.

This is used to safely level or take off factory touch up paint. Get the whole kit if you want to give it another shot:

I concur.

Start (again) by trying to get all the old touch up paint and wax off.

Alright, awesome thanks guys. I'll give these ideas a shot.

Go figures I tried to clean the car up without looking at the weather forecast for the week. Rain rain and more rain.

The art of finesse is going to be hard to aquire coming from the off road jeep in world. Only one way to learn though.

Thanks again for the advice

Cheers

If it's the Toyota dealership pens, simply wipe with rubbing alcohol, it will remove the touch-up paint with ease.
