IF they actually make the FT-1 / Supra, and IF it magically comes in around C7 pricing, and IF it magically performs similar or better than other cars in its class..... I'm having one.

Hopefully no hybrid system though.

$28,999. Instead of real mechanical improvements, we get ugly-ass bling. Maybe TCoat can make a call and find out how old the new 86 design team is. My guess is they are all about 22.

C7 pricing is highly doubtful considering how much R&D they're putting into it. And by the looks of things, hybrid motors is the future...

I read that the body is out the window, and it will be a hybrid. Damn if I can find that link. Probably BS. No way that body style survives, anyway. It has roundness, and we cant have that.

There was some announcement that they were trying to be in around 50K.

How much R&D do you think a C7 has behind it with a whole new architecture, motor, and transmission? Probably quite a bit. They do have years of corvette evolution to build on though.

They haven't stated anything about a hybrid system yet, so hopefully the BMW turbo motor stuff is actually coming to fruition, but who knows. It would be an immediate no go if there is anything having to do with hybrid in that car, and I would wind up in another corvette.

If they're building a completely new platform, then I reckon its going to be costly...

Yep.... again, its all speculation and dreams until it happens.

Luckily they're already supposedly using BMW's architecture on their Z4 platform.... SUPPOSEDLY.

Well, that depends on whether they're expecting a profit out of it. One of the things that makes GM able to produce the Corvette at all is that while they want it to be profitable, they are also willing to accept less profit on the car if they can develop technologies out of that line that can be used in other vehicles. For example, several years ago they developed a frame for the Corvette that was formed by water injection into steel tubing that made the car exceptionally stiff. They turned right around and used that in their truck line. That technology makes them money in other vehicles.

So GM can make a sports car that performs as well as or better than a $200K supercar and sell it for much less. The supercar manufacturer has to make a profit on every car. They don't have a $30K family version that will sell better because of tech they developed for the $200K monster.

Toyota is in the same boat as GM if they want to be. If the FT-1 platform is only for that car, and nothing comes out of it that can be used elsewhere, it will likely be expensive. But if they're using it to develop tech that can be adapted to other cars in the lineup, they can price it lower and take a "loss" on that car in exchange for expanded profit elsewhere.

Nah. Once there are $20-30k electric family sedans capable of going 300-400 miles on a single charge, and to be fully recharged overnight at home and partially recharged within minutes at a charging station, almost no one will want the the old Mr. Otto's invention, hybridized or not. This going to happen in 10, maybe 15 years.
