My 17 year old daughter jumped the curb yesterday morning on her way to school and ended up with her car across the sidewalk. After getting it off the sidewalk, I jacked up the car and was surprised to discover that the only damage was a badly bent wheel rim. She gets to buy the wheel; $125 for a remanufactured rim out of Houston, plus $35 for a used wheel cover. The car was a 2008 Nissan Sentra.

I was surprised by two things:

1. The Sentra took a beating going over the curb but sustained no damage to its suspension, only to the wheel. Must have been designed to accommodate bad drivers.

2. The cost of a used OEM replacement rim. Jeez, I could buy a new alloy wheel for not much more than that.

She wasn't hurt, she gets to pay for the repair (plus I'm charging her $20 for the labor) and maybe she has learned a lesson. I hope so.

Good thing it's not dead today....

Just wasted the last half hour reading theories about the Matrix on io9. I'm not sure if I ever sat down and watched the second and third movies in their entirety might as well do that this weekend.
