K, sure. Believe me or not isn't my problem... actually that's a LEAST of my problem.

Guess who brought the first US FRS technical info to the forum? Guess who was invited to test drive first FRS to figure 8, Autox, track and asked question directly to Tada-san? Was it you? I'm not here to brag about what I have done... but I get annoyed when see these kind of pointless taunting comment.

I don't mean to be rude. "San" implies you and Tada are equals, sitting in some sushi bar in Tokyo designing the gen-2 86. I would never, ever, refer to Tada as "san" like he was my drinking buddy. If you are drinking buddies, then I must call you "Moderator Sama".

Pretty sure ichi knows the proper use of each word since he is actually Japanese! Not Japanese decent or one of the forum wanttabes.

And we are all every bit his equal in this world. He holds no authority over us. He is a car engineer not our teacher nor mentor.

Ok this is the silliest debate yet today.

Pasty-white people using "san" when referring to a Japanese dude is the ultimate condescension. The best examples of the abuse of "san" can be found in audio magazines.

Dude, are you being serious? Most Japanese people don't expect Non-Japanese people to understand the intricacies of their honorifics. I lived in Japan for years and can tell you it's a complex thing. Trust me, you don't even want to get into keigo. If you're a westerner, addressing him as Tada-san will more than suffice.

I lived there as well. As you say, "san" will suffice.

Well at this point 200 more "I hate it" or "I love it" really are not going to mean much anyway.

Like Tcoat said, I'm full Japanese. Born and raise there. That's why I have this "Engrish". I think, I know when to use san, sama & so on.

I just barely read your other post, but why would I call him Tada Sensei? He's not a teacher.

He's not my drinking buddy. I know someone who is his drinking buddy when he comes to US. I've spent several hrs discussing about how 86 came about and countless message and email back & forth.

Also using "san" means I'm equal level? That's a false. If I call him by his first name "Teysuya-san" then it's different story (Sorry Tada-san, for calling you by first name).

Thank you for the Japanese lesson, but I think I know. Specially, I'm a Japanese translator as a side job.

Who is this pretentious douche?

I'm not Japanese myself, but I've lived in Japan and Koreans have honorifics that are quite similar.
To my knowledge, San is just an honorific for modern day standards to any strangers or senior, whereas Sama (same as the 'Nim' in korean) is something they use to refer to someone in higher power (like monarchy, president, house liege, etc.)

I've had several friends who are Japanese and was pretty into the culture at some point in my life, and have never heard somebody use Sama to refer to somebody... it's 2016 bro..
Seeing as how Ichi actually is Japanese apparently, I'd imagine he has plenty of knowledge on the topic.
Besides, who the fuck cares? It should be appreciated that honorifics are even being used in western culture where it practically does not exist (at least in the US for the most part).

I don't expect younger korean american dudes to start calling me big bro in korean unless I know they were raised with the culture. Even then I wouldn't give a shit...

I'm sorry but not sorry about this, but what makes you think Ichi hasn't sat down and had sushi and talked with Tada san before like they don't know eachother.... I've been here long enough to know and also it would be weird if I went up and talked to Tada San or Moto San by calling them sensei or sama. They don't want that honorific and I've spoken to a lot of people heck I just spoke to people who do engineering for Bugatti and they're down to Earth Tada San especially he's been super awesome. I think you should treat him and other big name engineers or designers like Ken Seward for example with respect, but the same way you want to be treated. I dunno Im no teacher I just love cars and Im happen to be lucky enough to be in the moment when things happen. Still this has been the most silly thing I've read here and I've been here since 09.

Now to explain somethings, Tada San was there giving interviews to Japanese press on the new car he also came with some other big name engineers. How do I know? I saw the interview heck I was standing two feet away and he's just as passionate about the car as he's always is and in a very down to earth way. Let me spell it out yes he worked on the new 86 I can't say how much As a manager there explained to me it's not so easy to get a car into production, they always have to make hard decisions, espocially for the twins when it's not just a board of Toyota but subaru as well. Think about it a bit more, the car isn't going to please everyone and you are entitled to your own opinions.

all I can say is they put hard work into this car, so please don't pass judgement, don't be negative and see it for yourself in person first and if you like the one before it, sure that's great too! Thank you!
