I compared the A/S tires with the others and they had the highest marks on TireRack. Maybe my fault was reading too far into the ratings..

I have a set of Pirelli P Zero Runflats that I got for next to nothing. These are 225's instead of 235's. Would this fix my problem?

runflats will definitely have a much stiffer sidewall than non-runflats. just inherent by design. that would definitely help with the "squishy" feeling.

All seasons are going to be pretty crappy.

I got Continental DWS for the street, they are "OK", should have just got Michelin PSS

Stock Michelins are way better than a crappy all season

Come to an enthusiast forum if you want advice and reviews on tires on the car you actually drive, not some random guy who "spiritedly drives" his buick regal.

How does one know if a tire has stiff or soft sidewalls? Is there an indicator or rating I can look at for this?

There isn't a metric for sidewall stiffness. Product reviews are where it's at. Tirerack has a ton of videos where they describe what you're feeling as "initial turn-in", "initial bite", "responsiveness", etc.

Your problem is definitely that you bought all-season tires. You don't have to save up for MPSS though. I've run both Dunlop Direzza DZ102 (235/40/18), and BFG GeForce Sport Comp 2 (225/40/18) on my 18x8.5 wheels and both were a big step up from Primacy HP. The BFGs I prefer quite a bit over the Dunlops. Both tires are also inexpensive in those sizes.

There was a suggestion by "killerbee" to run 245/35r18. He said that the larger tire with more sidewall is much better for feel and response. The downside obviously is cost..

Your problem is tire compound more than size. The all-seasons simply aren't meant to do what you expected them to.

Continental DWS and DW are two different tires. DWS are the all seasons... I think you got the wrong Continentals.

I know the difference and I got the DWS because I considered driving my car in light snow. After owning the car for some time I decided to just use another car as my DD as I track my BRZ now.

So when I made my decision I went for the DWS but how I use my car now I would have been fine to just get a summer tire as I don't drive it in the snow. And the PSS is better than the DW.

This is the sole reason I haven't gone for wider rims. Weight.
I'm thinking of keeping my stock (17") and just going for 225s + 20mm spacers.

That was my plan too, but I ended up buying some 17x8 rims that are lighter then stock but those tires I posted above are heavier then stock, but at the end of the day I get better tires for the same weight as OEM

Push it with your finger.

Haha. Just kidding. Good Q though.
