The only brand I can think of that isn't really doing anything is the Nissan Z, which sales have been abysmal. I really do hope Nissan has a new Z coming. I work at a Nissan/Infiniti Dealership, so I am dead serious when I say I hope they do something with the Z. Lol.

Hill assist is what you fuckers get for complaining that the hand brake method is dumb and unsafe. It worked just fine and it wasn't a problem till you turned it into one. I hope you're happy.

Also, the genesis has a turbo version so maybe they will take away all the handling of the 86 and add a turbo and you guys can stop bitching about power and again, screw everyone else over

I thought the Genesis dropped the 2.0L Turbo variants and left only the 3.8L V6?

I shopped the Nismo and really, really, really wanted to like it. I didn't. Can't really say what I didn't like but the whole package just did not jell with me.

Aggressive appearing front face on a car that can hardly be called aggressive - Check
Fancy tail and headlights that attempt a luxury car look in a car that is not luxury no matter how you dress it up - Check
A nominal HP increase to claim there was one - Check
Useless electronic gizmos again to seem luxury - Check
To be confirmed but at a guess an increase in weight - Check (probably)

So far hitting all the high points. They are headed for the more general pubic now and we can just suck it up and roll with it.

Ultimately we will know its all over by the "cup holder to seat" ratio. Right now, if you count the "water bottle" holders in the door it's 1 to 1 which is bad enough. When they get to 4 to 1, then we know it's "arrived".

They did. It was a gutless wonder turbo or not. Turbo is not always the answer.

yeah i get that there are a lot of models that became like that over the years but those cars weren't named after an old school car with an identity anchored in lightness and simplicity, and they didn't have Tada-san banging home that identity constantly throughout the marketing process. Tada-san's still the chief engineer, 3 suspension tweaks, an ugly bumper, and buttons on the steering wheel aren't enough for me to lose faith.

Well maybe now that Scion is no more, there may be more trim levels available in the future. So those who want more "luxury" or "performance" can have all their cakes and eat it too. ::shrug::

I hope you are correct but he will not control the car forever. He is not a god and takes orders from his bosses just like everybody else. I personally think it has already been handed over to the Marketing crew and the engineers only have a small say in some aspects. He had his crack at it and now it is sales time. Toyota is in the cars sales business and no matter how much they hyped up the old school link so they will push it aside in a second once it is the right time.

Nissan should have seen the 86 coming, beat Toyota to the punch and built a "retro" Z car. I still think the 86 is more a "Z" descendant then the marketing dream Toyota put on it.

At the risk of resurrecting an old thread, this is one of my favorite articles produced about the 86 early on.

A little preview for those that may not have been around in 2012....

Little doubt there will be more trim levels available but the North American market is now conditioned that the car is inexpensive and the trim levels will not be cheap. Check out the prices of the high trims in Europe, Australia and Japan and ask yourself how many here will pay $35K+ for a car with some aero bits and fog lights. The FRS cost less than the base model in the rest of the world for a reason and people that think they are going to get high trim at bargain prices are in for a shock I am afraid.

I have to wonder even if he is still involved, he is all in on 2.0 and this one, as you say, is all in marketing's hands.

Wait is it not public knowledge that Tada San is retiring soon?

Well, he is!
