Do tell me if I'm wrong here:

Appears there are absolutely zero changes to all the sheet metal pieces which go into the body makeup. That would make things simple at the factory which assembles the car. Only the soft plastic parts and headlamps/tailamps have changed. Very little down time to change things for assembly of these 2017 vehicles.

The good thing for many of us: The average looker at our current cars won't know we're driving an old model if we have a 13-16 model. Therefore, no reason to buy a new car just to show off.

nice try though. (btw don't care what the badge says really, I bought mine used for a steal but had I gotten one new, it'd be a flip of a coin to figure out which one I would've ended up with). At the end of the day they're the same exact car.

Don't worry. I've since taken off my tinfoil hat.

LOL the average looker at our cars doesn't know what the hell it is much less what year it was made.

Remains to be seen if the sheet metal has been changed. You are correct that the tooling changes at the plant will be almost nothing.

This is normal for most Japanese MMCs - the hard points all remain the same and only the bumpers/lights/some interior bits change.

Exactly I only see headlights, front bumper cover and taillights, spoiler, head unit and steering wheel and of course badges, as having been changed. Parts that are easily swapped off the assembly line and don't require retooling of machines

I get asked at the very least once a month about my car from people who have no idea it exists! Not to mention all the people who just stare as I'm going by. Got a thumbs up by a guy in a newer Porsche yesterday

Not a mystery there Ghost! Toyota has blessed us with a pic of that as well.

Something like the new Camaro six or the ND Miata is what i'd call a new gen.

Damn it Tcoat, I saw that picture and tried to delete my post before anyone saw... I do NOT like that new steering wheel, but if there are other trim options (maybe one with dual-zone climate) then that trim may add more buttons onto the right side of the steering wheel. I had actually hoped they would only change a few materials in the interior and maybe upgrade the plastics on the HVAC controls but leave the steering wheel alone

Definitely not a new gen. I'd call it a kouki model. Facelift and minor other changes. Everything major is still the same.

It's like the zenki and kouki 240sx, RSX etc. So '13-'16 would be a zenki. '17+ would be a kouki.

Glad to see this re-branded as Toyota but I can't say I am a huge fan of the changes cosmetically. I don't care for the front bumper, LED head and tail lights, and steering wheel controls. The rear bumper, fender garnish and fender emblems are nice though. Let's not even talk about the performance changes.
