As some of you who have been following this thread have seen, we've gone through a number of different intake setups. After some careful consideration we decided on the Mishimoto cold air intake for a few different reasons.

Even though we had some unique requirements, The mishimoto intake was able to provide a cold solid and well setup solution for us.

Our major hurdle was getting around the brake cooler ducts, With the previous intake that had an airbox and duct directly behind the radiator we were left with no room to run the ducting for the brake coolers. Others that have run a similar setup remove the airbox and just run an open filter. We didn't feel that this was an ideal solution and opted to look for an intake that would move the filter outside of the engine bay and allow the brake ducts.



As you can see in this picture if we had an airbox in the engine bay that duct would not work.

One of the major features we liked about the Mishimoto MAF housing was the air straightener blades, this ensures that no matter what the air velocity the ecu is provided with steady and consistent readings from the MAF.

Although we did have to trim the radiator support a little bit this was to give more room to the brake ducts.



We're really happy with how the Mishimoto intake performed for us during the race and were surprised with how well it held up to the abuse the drivers gave to the front end of the car.

Well it's finally time to rebuild the car, so I'll leave you with a few progress shots


Not as bad as it looked with all the body work on


Still seems straight

@Gear_One_Performance awesome build guys. Quick question - can you provide a bit more detail on your wing bracing?

1) did you find that it was necessary?
2) can you go into a bit more detail on the under trunk bracing as well as the "clamps" on the outside?
3) anything you would have done differently?

There will be a much more efficient brake cooling solution soon. It will use the factory fog light housings and much less hose with a more direct route to the rotors around the back side of the wheel well/fender liners using a custom molded pancake pipe (similar to the GT86 Cup's brake cooling solution)

Yes, wing bracing is necessary for our setup, using the SCCA spec GTC-200 wing the mounts need to be drilled in to the trunk and the stock trunk lid has tons of flex in it. This is different from the GTC-200 for the 86 that APR sells, unfortunately that one falls just a hair outside of our regulations. The bracing for that wing may be better but we didn't have an opportunity to test it.

The trunk bracing was something that we came up with as a temporary solution to the amount of flex the wing was having on an unaltered trunk. The clamps are for our dry break fueling system. By removing the stock latch and instead using these common rubber latches we remove a potential failure point that could cause the trunk to stay shut or refuse to shut. The rubber latches have a decent amount of stretch in them and are easily repairable in the case of a rear end collision.

There's a lot we would have done differently and as we continue to prepare for this season we'll update you guys with the revisions we've made, both the trunk bracing and latches are on the list to be looked over and potentially changed up.

In a perfect world we would have the dry break built into the side of the car and the wind would be hard mounted to the car through slots in the trunk. Unfortunately we had a few restrictions that prohibited that.

Would love some shots of the rear showing the wing span length compared to the body, and height of the wing. Side shots and some angled shots would all be awesome. Just want some more is all

Keep in mind this is the SCCA spec GTC-200, I believe APR makes a GTC-200 that has the correct brackets for the brz trunk, these are just universal brackets.

I want the SCCA spec because I'm not a fan of really huge wings, and this is the most modest gt wing I could find aside from the BRZ tS wing (which is like 3k, so no way I'm buying that)

The universal brackets themselves don't have specific issues mounting right? Do you think I'll actually need a trunk brace from the flex of the trunk?

Nope, we just drilled some holes and went to town, but yes you'll need some form of bracing in the trunk if you intend to use it at higher speeds.

gotcha... I'm getting this wing because I finally found a wingless trunk to trade (wrb15+ wingless trunks are rare!) and that's why I decided to go for it. I probably won't be tracking the car for quite some time so I'll worry about the trunk braces later.

Interesting place to mount batter cut-off switch, I don't remember whether you relocated the battery to the trunk, but don't cut-off switch's alternator protection requires wiring that goes all the way back to the front of the car this way?
