58 here. I've owned too many bad a$$ cars in the past to mention. No reason to stop now. Any "practical" car my wife had talked me into, I've hated and got rid of it in a short time. Looking forward to autocrossing and tracking mine when it comes in.

I'm 39 and considering one or a WRX. When I was 34 I bought a bright red Z06 and the wife called that my midlife car so I put that on the license plate, MIDLIFE. It was great to see people pull up behind me, read the plate, think about it and then start laughing. I almost didn't buy the car as a bit of guilt was there, but my father-in-law who was dying of cancer told me life was too short and I should just do it. Later, I sold the car to justify shifter kart racing to the wife but I miss it and later replaced it with the most fun car I've ever owned, a Boxster - again life is short. The Genesis Coupe I drive now to keep miles off the Boxster is a very nice car, killer for the money, but its not a "fun" car the way Miatas, CRX, Boxster, and the Z06 were. It's more like a Mustang where you can have fun with it and the torque is great but its big and doesn't feel willing. So I'm debating on the FRS to replace it to get back to that fun little car spirit I miss. I think the looks aren't all that midlife-ish, but certainly a lot more if you are coming from a Camry and such. Do what makes you happy.

ABQ, Just a little food for thought. Just knowing this car is sitting in our garage makes my wife smile as much as it makes me smile. Last night we had a house full of friends over and after they left, instead of cleaning up the place straight away we looked at each other and ran to the garage for a drive! The car is that much fun! Go for it. I've had similar cars to what you have in your list in the past and the FRS is Lotus level basic car, awesome road and serious connected fun in pretty much every way! Go for it!

Thanks Jedi, that's cool its that much fun. I felt that way about my Miata when I got it, I would literally volunteer to go get people cigarettes (I don't smoke anymore) just for the chance to drive it. However things have changed and I don't think I could go back to that little power. The FRS is the car I said I've always wanted but since dreaming of it, I worry the seriously low torque might ruin the party for me doing my commute. One point for me at least, is I live 5800ft above sea level, so the car will have 20% less power than you sea level folks.

48 going on 12. I like the FR-S but I'm not quite sure if I want one. My wife (best wife ever) works at a Scion dealership and is actually pushing me to get one. She even told me I can keep my roadster!

63 and finally got the car I've been waiting for in over 20 years. Had 2 BMW's, 2 Mini's, Acura TSX, Accord V6 plus 10 Hondas ( accords and civics). My Argento FRS is by farthe best handling car with more than enough power to get into trouble.

Almost there, especially when it comes to experience as opposed to years. With two small children, the FR-S was the practical (and efficient) choice over an Elise or an S2000.
The younger ones should thank us for hopefully keeping the insurance rates in check. |

I'm 42.. looking to get my FR-S shortly after i hit 43.. next Spring. I love this car, although I wasnt impressed when i saw it at the Auto Show.. its only when I drove it.. had a chance to get in and out at my leisure (not rushed due to 40 people in line behind me) that my mind was made up. My wife saw it and flat out told me to get this car as long as we can afford it.. Working towards that..lol. hence why i must wait til next spring.. lol I don't think for me its a mid-life thing.. I dont look my age.. or really act "old" (whatever old means), but I know I'm not like my Dad when he was my age.. lol. Heck i love comic book movies, scifi, racing, CARS- of course- and listen to all kinds of music.. Dont think i will ever want to be "old"..lol.
Oh.. and I am SO Happy that I work for a Toyota-Scion Dealership!!! Do what you love.. right??!! |

53-year-old BRZ owner here, and longtime Subaru fanatic. My son got the '95 SVX for college graduation, and I get this one as a replacement fun car.

47 here. Being a car nut, it has been my business since 1994 thru a car accessories, wheel, tire and service shop. Fell in love with the 86 design and engine concept of joint collaboration of 2 auto giants. Right now in the garage is KE25 soon to be 2TG efi, KP61 4AGE, EG6, SV4 and Pajero BK. The car hasn't been released here yet. Privileged to be invited to the exclusive launch and test drive of the 86 on June 18 & 19. Hoping to be one of the first owners of this car with rumours going around that we will be getting only 20 units for the year!
