Ok, 10 series owners can add heated mirrors.

That is connector E7 in the door with pink wire from pin 8 of connector ED1 entering pin 4 of connector E7.

So for 10 series owners, purchase the relay for the fuse box and a set of mirror assemblies as listed earlier in the thread and you can add heated mirrors.

Standing by for a photo of ED1 from a base FR-S.

Did you remove the kick panel with the hood latch? I don't see anything close.

@Ultramaroon, It looks like you removed the upper panel. I just removed the panel that covers the hood release. It's held on by the plastic push pin. Then just slide it back to disengage the plastic slides and pull up the first retaining clip on the running board and you'll be able to slip it out.

It'll be the first connectors you see close to the door jamb.

I can just see the top of connectors ED1 and FD1 in your photo but they are covered by the lower footwell panel. You'll see them if you look at the bottom center of your photo where the panel has the step in it. The one on the left is ED1.

You have an upper panel? Ha!

It looked familiar. I'll pull that footwell panel tomorrow.

I see what you did there.....you got me good lol. I haven't spent enough time sitting upside down under this dash. I had many more years of doing that in the previous make I owned.

Got my mirrors in from 1A Auto. Got the pair for $139.90 and was pleasantly surprised at how they arrived. Each mirror was in its own box, completely disassembled ready for install. I can definitely recommend purchasing from this firm. The quality appears to be there and its both sides for less than the cost of one assembly from Subaru for the BRZ limited with heated mirrors.

Now I just have to decide if I want to swap over the paint matched covers or run the base black these come with. Hmm.

So all I can say is while this job is straight forward (removal of the old mirror and install of the new one) it would have been great had the service manual given a hint about how to get the pig tail out because it wasn't immediately obvious.

Onto the hints.

For the drivers side door panel its almost impossible to remove the top connector from the mirror and lock control panel. There are four phillips head screw drivers and one plastic clip holding it in place. It makes it easier to undo the clips or you could remove and just leave it hanging if you want.

Getting the pig tail out could definitely frustrate you. The secret is you have to bring the pig tail forward in the door and then up to/above where the fixed window and guide mount are. Once there, pull it out while keeping it in that area and it'll be out cleanly in no time.

This is what blocks you from going out the way you think its supposed to route it when your blindly reaching inside the guts of the door.

Comparison of the two housings. My OEM housing is on the right and the replacement on the left. They are about 99% the same short of a few finishing details from the mold they were removed from but none of that impacts fit and finish.

They work perfectly, both the motor adjustment and heated feature. They got hot within a few seconds and it was noticeable to the back of the hand. No more useless mirrors on foggy/iced over mornings.

Ok....so if I am reading this right... buying the relay and heated mirrors and installing them on a US FRS or BRZ premium does not make the heated mirrors work (unless you rewire them)?

You need to but the relay and then buy new side mirror assembles with the correct wiring and install them.

Until someone gets me a photo of a base FR-S where connector ED1 is I can't say for certain but it looks that way based on someone else having bought the everything and reporting it didn't work (which sorry BTW to anyone that did that without me or anyone releasing there might be wiring difference).

All I've done at this point is prove that a 10 Series owner can add the heated mirrors buy just buying the relay and heated mirror assemblies and installing them (plug and play).

Here's What's behind my panel on my 2013 frs if it helps.

Edit: After examining your photo and mine it doesn't look good for plug and play.

Am I right in that assumption?

Yeah, there's clearly no pink wire there.

Does anybody know if we can buy pins for these connectors? I'm sure there's something that will work, but I'd rather buy the correct pin and fish the wire through or just replace that piece of the harness.

Doc, the question now is how much of the wiring is missing.

Someone has to basically do what I did on a base FR-S model from start to finish testing out the leads. If all the leads are there in the fuse box then the question becomes do you have the Yellow-black striped wire that leaves from the fuse box and goes into the cabin. Where it gets tricky is that wire has a wire splice [indicated by the stop sign in the wiring diagram] before it splits to feed connector AD1 (pin 16) and AD2 (pin 24) where it then runs to pin 8 on both ED1 and FD1. If you have the yellow-black stripped wire then its obviously a lot easier and less wiring and tear down you'd have to do to add these and make them plug and play.

As far as knowing which pin to order if you get to the connector's in question and grab the number that is embossed on them from the molding you can the go and open the Toyota Wire Harness Repair Manual I found and put in the DIY section. Granted its from 2007 but as long as they were using that connector then on another model it'll give you all the information you need to order the correct pins with a portion of wire from the parts desk at a Toyota dealer.

Ultimately it looks like they just used the BRZ premium harness on any car that came with the push start feature and that the only thing the 10 series didn't get that the monogram got from the factory were the alcantra seats, heated seats, and heated mirrors.

Interior connectors location for reference.
